the Warrior

“A warrior does not give up what he loves, he finds the love in what he does”

A proud warrior, Redghost never meant to join a lair, events simply played out on their own. In one of his many battles he ended up severely injured and while seeking out a place to recover and tend to his wounds he fell into a deep pool. Too sore and weary to climb out he lay there, letting the seawater clean his wounds until he was found by Alga, the current leader of the clan the territory belonged to. Seeing that he was injured, Alga brought him back to the clan’s lair and where his mate, Aava, and their son, Kari, personally tended to his wounds. The pair understood the value of being on good terms with a warrior of such prowess and their kindness paid off. As soon as he was healed Redghost vowed to repay his debt to them by serving as a protector to the clan and its territory.

There were other reasons for his decision to stay though, a young Pearlcatcher named Sono had caught his eye and he had made the decision to begin courting her as soon as she was old enough. His patience was rewarded for the Pearlcatcher had been equally impressed by him and when he finally asked she was quick to agree. When other dragons voiced their misgivings about his decision, asking if she was his Charge or if he would take her away with him if he were to leave on the Search he took it as their questioning his honor and responded sharply without actually answering. He knows that when the time comes there will be little need for him to travel to find his Charge, but that time has not come yet. Soon perhaps, but there is still time.

In the beginning he was more of a mentor to Sono than anything else, teaching her what he knew of battle and hunting. Sono was a quick learner and was soon on the way to surpassing Redghost in hunting at least, the Guardian had years of experience and much greater strength when it came to fighting though sparring matches with Sono proved to be a delightful challenge. The Pearlcatcher’s youth and enthusiasm lend themselves to a certain creativity and she is always full of new surprises for her mentor and mate. He is always trying to push her to surpass her previous limits and though he will never say it, he worries that he has pushed her too far on at least one occasion. On one of their many hunting trips they were tracking a particularly large octoflyer near a stretch of jagged rocks along the coast. He told her to lead the attack, which she did, only to miss time her initial strike and end up being flung against the rocks by the creature. The injury was not so severe that they were unable to finish the hunt, but it left visible scars, which Redghost blames himself for. It is against his nature to show his concerns, but since that incident he had been a little more watchful about the situations he guides Sono into.
