Originally an archaeologist and a Pearlcatcher, Lux traveled Sornieth to explore pre-dragonkind structures and artifacts, the bulk of his research focusing on the Sunbeam Ruins. While the area had been picked over an uncountable amount of times over the years, once day in the Hewn City Lux managed to discover an ancient crypt that lay untouched for many centuries. Considering himself an ethical archaeologist, Lux refused to take artifacts from tombs, and always asked those who he shared the locations of his sites with to do the same. Ethics aside, magic shaped Sornieth, and ancient magic and curses didn't have an expiration date. Lux's "take only memories" policy was both selfless and self-preserving. Of course, as a Pearlcatcher, memories were sometimes tangible. While within the crypt, Lux secreted more layers onto his pearl, thinking nothing of the action he had done countless times before. But the magic remaining in the crypt, predating dragonkind and certainly Pearlcatchers, didn't see those physical memories as Lux's. They were treasure, and when Lux left, they were stolen treasure. A curse befell Lux, and his shadow rose and tapped him on the shoulder, taking on the form of an entirely identical dragon, down to every bent scale and marking. The only way to tell the two apart is by the cursed entity's eyes, which reflect no light. After the initial shock of the curse, Lux began researching to remove it. Thus far, he has found nothing, and in his journeys has joined Gestalt for a place to call his home base. His research so far has been fieldwork and experiments, as he has found no history of such a curse to guide him. He has changed his breed to a Mirror, and as he blinked, his shadow morphed too. The entity following him, which he has named Umbra, causes him no harm, but he finds his constant empty gaze unnerving. At least, that's what he says. Deep down, Lux thinks he'll miss his shadow when he's gone. |
