Middoe asked:
How did you meet that familiar of yours? Sprangyroos are quite feisty little creatures.

"Cypress? Funny story about him.

Thorn, Juro and I were out hunting and messing around by the western coast of the plateau. We're trying to find some big game, because our clan was having a bit of a food shortage, never enough to go around. So we're out here, someplace we've never been before. We'd heard there were longneck tribes out this way, and to not attack unless provoked - you know the deal.

And then y'know how up north is the reedcleft ascent, with all those big cliffs and terraces? Well we fly over a big cliff, and very faintly see a dark shape at the base of the cliff. We're thinking maybe something big like a qiriq had taken a fall. I fly down, going to check it out, and it's one of those big mean lizards, a boran, I think. It's armor is all mangled, and it's covered head to toe in slashes and blood and all that. It's dead, of course; I don't know how it would've survived the fall. I didn't think the fall could've done all that to it, so it must've had a skirmish of sorts above the cliff, and then fell.

I fly down lower and land beside it, thinking there's no threat anywhere near, but then I see another shape, behind the body of the boran. It's smaller in size, brown fur, there's some splatters of blood... but it's breathing!

It looks to be unconscious, so I flag down Juro and Thorn, who'd been circling above, waiting for a signal.

We're debating what to do with the boran, and I tell them there's another creature, a living one, beside the lizard. Thorn takes a look and identifies it as a sprangyroo, creatures famous for being longneck mercenaries. While Thorn told me how he first met a sprangyroo, Juro was looking over their wounds, and said they were claw marks from dragons.

"Dragons unfriendly to beastclans," he said to me.

Now, we're a peaceful clan. We don't pick fights with beastclans. We've even allied with some of them. They have every right to live on Sorneith with us, they were here first, after all.

By then we've decided to help this thing, so we roll the body of the boran off of it, and I go to pick the sprangyroo up. It squirms a bit, but quickly settles down. Its wounds are minor, compared to its mount, and we decide we can make it back home to treat them.

Thorn mentions taking the boran with us, but, like I said before, we respect the beastclans. It wouldn't be right for us bring it back to eat.

We prepare to take off, deciding to leave the boran behind, but Juro stops to do a quick once over the body. "Just to be sure," he says. He finds a small saddlebag, filled with some supplies and rations and stuff, and he takes that with him.

So, we take off, leaving the boran behind. Surprisingly, we make it back home with little difficulty. We take the sprangyroo to Daelin, and he says he'll see what he can do.

Eventually the sprangyroo wakes up, clocks Daelin in the jaw, and tries to make a break for it. It almost gets away with it too, but Thorn quickly stops its path and I intervene.

I'm speaking in a calm voice to it, telling him, "Hey, calm down, we're not gonna eat you. We're trying to help you."

And it takes a lot of time and persuasion, and I mean a lot, but eventually the sprangyroo trusts us enough to heal its wounds. We just kinda hang around while Daelin looks at it's wounds, diagnoses them as minor, and puts a salve on them to kickstart the healing. It takes a few days for him to be all healed, but by then, I can tell he's taken a liking to the clan.

We tell him, "You can leave now if you want," but he sorta shakes his head and tells me, in limited draconic, that he is grateful, and that he'd like to stay.

And then the rest is history. Cypress has been by my side since."
