Biography

she/her, aro lesbian

yehlow is the eldest of the triplet mirrors (hatched from one egg) nicknamed the primary. she acts as their leader (to reyd's disgruntlement), since she's smart and observant. the primary were born to debtors who ran off rather than raise the hatchlings on their own. their creditor raised them instead, with the intent of having good and faithful servants to actually pay off the debt. the good and faithful bit was . . . well, it was a mere hope anyway. but the primary do follow their creditor's orders, carrying out jobs that take them many places, including through mango pirate canyon

the primary tends to stay at ronnis' duskfall tavern, preferring a window berth over anything in the cellar for its cleanness and fairness. yehlow and blue roll their eyes at the cellar's sinister ways, but reyd is always sneaking off in search for "fun" while her sisters browse the "boring" day market on the bedrock

after letting the egg hatch, the creditor turned the primary over to an underling to raise them, who did not do a good job. they were roughly handled and frequently yelled at or insulted and demeaned. the primary only had each other.
when they tried to run away, it caught the interest of the creditor, who hauled them back, but, liking their spunk, put them into training beyond manual labor as servants. blue was the only one who really got good at it, but together the three made a decent team. still, they got in an awful lot of trouble, due to yehlow's scheming and reyd's antics.
yehlow recognized that their worth in the eyes of their creditor was falling and knew their patience would thin eventually and snap. she came up with a plan, and the three snuck out again. when their absence was discovered, it was believed they'd run away again and a hunt was set after them. when the creditor caught up, they discovered the three had stolen an item the creditor had mentioned desiring but had been unable to settle the business deal for it. the creditor was surprised by the three, impressed and amused, and decided, "alright. they have potential, show it even having grown up under the underling's bullying. what'll they do if i loosen their leash? see how they fly when under a less stern rule."
they gave the primary jobs, mostly running errands but on the criminal side of things, each followup mission with more degrees of freedom than the last to gauge their progress, ability, and loyalty. the creditor knows the primary aren't really loyal, neither party trusting the other, but the primary are a good tool to equip, and can easily be rid of if the time ever arises, a convenient scapegoat
errands include some low-stakes thievery, but mostly are the primary acting as representatives of the creditor: sign agreements, pick up or drop off a package, witness a proceeding, check up on the progress of a business arrangement. often just need to show up and look unimpressed, be a little intimidating, apply some pressure to speed processes along, make a few interns sweat. each primary is given an emblem ring that affords them the creditor's authority. (reyd is frequently losing hers, and yehlow and blue have to retrieve it none of them lose their heads.) the primary are also expected to wear their matching coats, color-coordinated of course since that gives the creditor a hoot and a half, and yehlow and blue follow that,,,,,most of the time. reyd on the other wing flings it off as soon as she's out of the creditor's line of sight, and has gambled it off or lost it in a bet multiple times

for much of the training years, before the primary became the primary and ran the creditor's errands, yehlow kept quiet and stayed in the background, letting blue shine as the model student and reyd steal the show by messing up a task in fantastic fashion. however, following their first thieving job, the creditor saw that the younger two looked to their elder and called her out for it. yehlow sighed, disappointed they'd figured it out, but accordingly stepped up as the clear leader and face of the team

yehlow is skilled at discretion, sneaking, picking locks, chatting people up to get information out of them, lying, as well as observation and formulating plans. brains and clever claws of the team. she's tall, long and lean, almost as slinky and graceful as a cat, quite flexible, with a knack for squeezing through smaller spaces than one would think possible (much to her smaller sister reyd's disbelief and dismay, who is always getting stuck). she tends to hold her head high, both to better look over crowds, and to convey confidence
there's a subtle yet irrefutable air of authority and intensity to her, with her many eyes on a constant search, each moving independently as they shift in different directions, calculating and judging every angle. the way she watches you as you talk, not speaking until the end. the way she's always aware, never taken by surprise. the way she doesn't seem alert, her posture languid, relaxed, but you can never tell what's going on in her head, what she's thinking about you, what she's planning to do next. the way she seems to know everything already, and not affected by any of it — it can throw dragons off, to say the least, put them on edge and uneasy

she had to learn to hide her emotions early on, to appear unfazed by the underling's harsh treatment, and nowadays often struggles to feel anything sufficiently, much less let others see it. so it can be hard for her sisters to recognize how much and how deeply she cares for them. blue knows it, since they work so closely together, but reyd . . . reyd doesn't know how much yehlow actually admires her, and yehlow doesn't know how to tell her so. she doesn't see reyd as a coward or a disaster. yes, reyd's annoying. jealous and ungrateful, sure. but so vibrantly and unapologetically alive, defiant and herself. she's the least gifted of the triplets, but doesn't let her faults stop her. in fact, she leans into those imperfections, snarling and daring others to laugh, judge, hate.
yehlow's absolute favorite thing in the world is to haul reyd's butt out of trouble, to thwart whatever latest dumbassery she's concocted today. she knows her triplet very well, can often predict exactly she'll do, because reyd is so impulsive. if something can happen, it probably will happen, 'long as reyd's around to stick her snout in it. yehlow finds that delightful, to be the cause of change, to catalyze reactions. too often she feels herself merely going with the flow, through the motions, existing passively, doing only what is expected of her by her sisters and their creditor and the world. unfortunately, blue follows her every step. but reyd, reyd denies doing anything she doesn't want or being anyone not herself. yehlow likes to experience some of that energy, taste how that might feel, even if just for a short while. yehlow knows she's capable of a great many things, but knows she could never be like her little sister
