✤ ✤ ✤

Noka's old apprentice, the first he ever attempted to gene. The procedure went awfully wrong- Noka too focused on painlessness, not efficiency, and Locke too desperate to change. He became exactly what he wanted- unrecognizable. And in doing so, he could not change back.

Noka was jailed for life for the crime, and he didn’t resist. Locke was released onto the streets, mentorless and alone, the wardens of the prison unsure what to do with the mutated young dragon. He grew bitter, until that bitterness morphed into fury- he had made Noka promise that whatever it took, Noka would ensure that the procedure worked. No matter how much pain Locke was in, Noka would continue. Instead, Noka had folded at his first scream, and his love , no, weakness had cost Locke everything.

His only companion during those first years was Rusk, a young Aether living in the sewers. The first night that he was alone, Rusk approached him in curiosity and saved his life, and from then on, Locke lived with him. Rusk, despite his exuberance, was an excellent thief, and Locke made an excellent bodyguard once he had gotten used to his new weaponry.

Trust does not come easily to Locke, not after Noka. He finds comfort in those who do not pretend to be kind- he can rely on them to do what must be done, no matter what. Aside from Rusk, the only two dragons he trusts are Orion and Oculus. Orion, despite his high status in the town council, is blunt to a fault, and makes no effort to hide his intentions. And when Rusk could not help the new Aberrant survive, he dragged him to Oculus- the older Aberrant was the only one he had ever seen before Locke, and was able to keep him alive.
