Where do I even start?

It was in a dream that I met her. No, really, I was inside a dream. There was this shadow, a monster in its own right, that drew me from my own dreams into a nightmare filled with corruption. This was not my dream, but rather, the chaos that stirred within the mind of an Undertide who struggled with his internal demons. It manifested as slithering tendrils of darkness that preyed on fear. Corruption had warped it in an unsettling manner. I had always been able to chase away my own fears. I had not known true fear. Until now.
From the moment it felt me, I thought I had lost the fight. Simply standing in its presence had me petrified. Never had a nightmare felt more real, and it wasn't even mine.

"This is how I die," I thought.

But it never touched me. From out of nowhere, I'm blinded by a smoke bomb. A pair of wings rushed past me. I was no longer alone with the beast. This broke my stupor but then I was lost. How do I get back home? How do I wake up? Which direction do I run? I saw flashes of light through the smoke, and silhouettes of an Imperial entangled with the monster.

Flash. The monster balks. Flash, flash. It fights back. A quick series of flashes, it's receding. I saw my opportunity to help. I dove in, head-first, though I could barely see where I was going. My new ally was a blue streak in the haze. I found the monster's head by the oil leaking from it's eyes. The oil burned everything it dripped on. I felt the fear return, creeping into my bones. It was like shaking off molasses.

Flash, flash, flash. The other Imperial didn't skip a beat.
I didn't waste any time. A burst of light erupted from my chest. Like ringlets of fire but made of light. I had no such power in the waking world. It sent the beast away, awakening the Undertide who had suffered inside it's depths. It awoke us all. I thought the nightmare was over. I startled awake in my home nest, baffled by what just occurred.
I didn't know it at the time, but it had only just started a new chapter of my life. I knew I had a certain clarity in my dreams, but I never knew I could enter another. I didn't know that the monster within that dream would slip into the waking world. I didn't know that I would continue to chase that corrupted Undertide for months. I didn't know that blue Imperial was my beautiful Lux, the one who taught me about Dreamland.

Bizarre how these things happen, isn't it?
