HISTORY
Cottonwood is a kind and dedicated father, mate and leader. His family notes his
inability to be unkind and discerning, which has led to trouble many times over the years that Mossfin has bailed him out of. However, underneath his kind persona lies a troubled dragon, one only his mate, Mossfin gets to see. Cottonwood struggles with rare prophetic dreams, one of which informed him of his father’s death, and the things he sees in those visions, combined with a innate compulsion to help everyone, Cottonwood often sacrifices his own needs and desires to help others. Some might compare him to Atlas of the Greek Gods, as though his self sacrificing nature is a punishment from the gods. And it very well might be.

Ever since his loving father’s death, Cottonwood has struggled with waking nightmares in which he envisions being helpless to the hurt his family endured without him. With the help of Mossfin and Pearwillow, his dearest friend and healer, however, he is slowly coming to terms with the idea of mortality, which allows him to stop being distant from Toadleg, his young adopted daughter for fear of causing her harm, and this includes having taken her to sunset’s 2nd family reunion.

In his spare time, Cottonwood enjoys pottery and painting, as well as hearing the stories - and telling them - of his kingdom’s great escapades, some of which he gets little visions of during his prophetic dreams.

Cottonwood shrugged off his best friend once again. ‘I don’t need it.’ He grumbled and turned away. Mossfin hovered, worried beside him. It had been 3 moon cycles since the two of them had run away from their Fire clans and found each other. They had run into trouble countless times with varying Beastclans and this last escape had seen Cottonwood sustain a deep gash across his shoulder. But like the proud Guardian he was, he refused to see to it effectively.

The last ebbs of a panic attack dribbled away as finally the consequences of the news he had just heard hit Cottonwood. His dad… was dead. Eager not to awake his mate, he dragged himself out of bed and into the cool salty air blowing in from the sea. It didn’t feel right to be surrounded by the smell of his new home when his dad’s body lay, still cooling, his mother burying his body without her failure of a son next to him. But he knew that his rare dreams informed him of the past. And that there was no way his dad was still breathing, all the way back in Emberglow’s Hearth. He choked on this thought and headed towards the sea, his salty tears trekking familiar paths down his snout.

"I'm not afraid of you. I-I never was."
"Hmm. Then why are you shaking?"
Cottonwood froze and stared at the scarred stranger who blocked his path. "What do you want?"
"I want what's rightfully mine."
"And what would that be?"
A low, menacing growl emitted from the other's throat. "The throne."

---

Cottonwood had never considered in his swirl of grief that the first thing his ever critical mother would hiss at him upon laying eyes on him for the first time in 20 equinoxes would be "You were never my son."

Shocked he sat backwards onto his hindlegs. "What do you mean by that?"

Flanking his mother were his two younger sisters and brother all of whom were glaring daggers at him. "You robbed my children of their chance to rule. He may have been your father but these are my children."
