Familiars
The familiar maintains the same proportion compared to the dragons image, regardless of how large or small the dragon is, yeah?
So I headcanon that familiars that are bonded to a dragon create a pact or smth that allows them to change their physical size.
The familiar can scale their size at will between sizes that are regular for their species, and the size that best fits to serve the dragon they're bonded to.
Dragon relationships
Most of my clans pairs consist of dragons that have chosen a lifelong partner they're bonded with.
Some are aesthetic pairs that don't nest. Some are queer pairs that cannot nest. There are even queer pairs that can nest, but choose not to. Being a hatchling-free is fine.
Aside from strictly romantic pairs, there are also bonded dragons who are strictly platonic. They may live together and enjoy each others company, do some coupley stuff since they're close, but don't care for or perceive it as romantic gestures.
As for my poly pair, the three of them are bonded. They nest in a rotating cycle since they're a project pair (2m, 1f) They're a synthwave/retrowave pair I've collectively nicknamed polywave.
Scrying and changing appearance
Morwyn, has a crystal ball that can show dragons scries of what they could look like, just like the scrying workshop!
Dragons may change their appearance for different reasons
Some dragons may be eccentric and like to switch it up, while others may be really insecure and the changes are affirming to their identity and provide comfort, much like transitioning. Some will even change themselves in attempts to win another dragons affection.
With the way my lore works, if I were to scatter a dragon it'd probably be written as "whenever they're feeling a little (silly/depressed) they [insert magic here] till they eventually found an appearance they liked" Smth like dunking themselves into a magic pond, or drinking a suspicious stew, potions etc. Haven't worked this bit out yet.
Fae and gender expression
Gender expression doesn't play much of a role amongst Fae in my clan. They go by any pronouns and change up their preffered ones every now and then. Some have a strong preference towards specific pronouns, but most don't mind calling them whatever.
Their assigned gender at hatching (agah) only plays a consistent role in the context of being able to nest, and the bonded dragons gender expression may differ from their agah.
May loosely apply this to spirals as well cuz I mix them up somewhat regularly too.
