the unwilling hero (she/her)
you follow the sound of fighting into the boreal wood, but you don't get there in time to see the fight.
a black wolf waits at her side, his muzzle bloodied. the dragon's sides are heaving. her claws are bloodied as well, teeth still bared in a snarl. she waits for a moment, catching her breath after tangling with a yeti, now a mangled pile of fur in front of her. then she sets off into the woods, her wolf at her side.
her trail leads back to a cave. smoke drifts from the entrance. she's curled around the fire, a silver skydancer tending to her wounds. her tail twitches impatiently, but her head remains bowed where her companion can reach her. a third dragon, a yellow pearlcatcher, tends to the fire, but he's watching her with concern. she asks when the others will return. soon, the skydancer tells her. she huffs, but settles against the cold stone beneath her and closes her eye. the pearlcatcher goes to her and snuggles up against her side. when the skydancer finishes cleaning her injuries, she joins them. soon, the cave fills with the sound of sleepy breathing.
