B I O G R A P H Y

Kalkenna left her clan in the Viridian Labyrinth on her Search, and after she had been in every part of the jungle and did not find her charge, decided (rather naively) that the Tangled Wood would be the best place to go first, for how different could it be to the Shrieking Wilds? She found out how wrong she was very quickly, for the trees and plants in the Tangled Wood were completely different from the flora of her home, and the murk that permeated every inch of the land was overwhelming, to the point where she could not feel the energy of the trees around her at all. But her determination to find her charge was so strong that she managed to push through all the choking murk and the tricks the woods and it’s denizens played on her. She was looking for something, anything to help her get out of the forest, and everyday she searched for a familiar feel of a tree that was not dripping in shadow magic. As she ventured further west, she felt it. A tree like the ones back home. She traced it down with such enthusiasm, thinking she was almost free of the Tangled Wood, for no tree in this place would feel like this. Instead, however, she found herself in the clearing of the Atrum Hollow. As she looked up at the immense tree, she found she could not take her eyes off of it. As she did so, subconsciously she noticed the incapacitating feeling of the murk of the woods fade away, as if all her magic was coming back to her in full force. This tree was from home, she knew it. Such a beautiful and powerful tree had to be protected, guarded. That was her job, her Charge. She had found it.
At the time of Kalkenna’s arrival, Musette had newly been made the Matriarch, and she was wary of the Guardian, who had turned up out of nowhere, now pledging to protect their home. But Kalkenna was stubborn and was determined to prove herself worthy. Luckily for her, her magic was so powerful and interesting to Musette, once she saw it’s extent, she could not refuse Kalkenna a place in her clan, though their relationship was always tense, mostly due to personality clashes, which was certainly not helped when Kalkenna became mates with Musette’s least favourite daughter, Oravelle.

An incredibly stubborn and passionate dragon, Kalkenna can seem to be slightly overwhelming to some dragons, but as she does not tend to speak to anyone unless she really feels the need to, not many outside of the clan see that side of her. Those who only visit the Atrum Hollow for lectures and lessons see her as the stoic and aloof Guardian of the Hollow, but to the clan members Kalkenna is a kind friend who is always willing to help with what she can, and enjoys lying in the branches of the Hollow, watching and listening to the lectures in the east side of the clearing, and tending to the gardens all around the Hollow. She is good friends with the clan’s nature magister Shallinah, as she trained Shallinah when she was younger, but the two are at odds when it comes to their opinions on Plague dragons. Since adopting her son, Kalrand, Kalkenna has had a better appreciation for the flight and their powers, something that Shallinah has not been able to accomplish yet.

The flora of the Atrum Hollow’s territory take up most of Kalkenna’s time, and she could never tire of it. She spends a lot of time taking care of the Hollow itself, pruning branches that grown too unruly, helping hollow out those big enough when more space is needed, and using her magic to protect the Hollow from those who potentially could want to do it harm. She also spends a lot of time researching how a tree as powerful and full of nature magic found it’s way to the Tangled Wood, while maintained it’s innate power, not succumbing to the murk and shadows. When not doing this however, she tends to the gardens around the lair, and spends as much time with her mate as possible.
