Biography
|
KEEMA In the Face of the Wind Founder| Honorary Council Chief| "Papa"| ——————- Keema is not exactly a leader, but everyone is fond of him and respects his position as founder. Keema was abandoned by his parents in the Starwood Strand. They were victims of the allure of magic and lost any sense of responsibility to others, as so many of their kind had done before them. Keema was stressed by the frenetic activity and overcrowding in his home lair and was also determined not to follow his parents' example, so as soon as he was old enough, and had gathered what supplies he could carry, he left to seek his fortune elsewhere. Of the regions bounding his old home, only the Windsinger's domain seemed at all hospitable. (He might have been happy under the Gladekeeper's eye, or even in the home of the Lightweaver, but the distance to those realms was more than he could bear to contemplate--plus he would have had to travel through very inhospitable realms, indeed.) Once he winged into the air of the Windswept Plateau he knew he was home. He was filled with inexplicable joy, and the sorrows and stresses of the past fell away. The agents of the Windsinger welcomed Keema merrily, escorted him to the Zephyr Steppes, and invited him to choose any little nook not already occupied in which to begin building his lair. Beyond his dreams, the Windsinger had directed the flight of another abandoned little fae to be his helpmeet. Keemara arrived almost immediately after Keema, one of his own kind, and with a similar history. Together they pooled their supply of tree sap and began to build, calling their new home Petals on the Wind, for that is how they saw themselves. Since then they have welcomed many other dragons into their lair, some of them friends who chose to dwell with them, some of them dragons seeking a new home and new adventures, and some because they were homeless or abandoned like Keema and Keemara had been. They are happy to have friends and family who are content to stay at home in the lair, or use it as a base for adventuring into the wide world (and enriching them all with their loot!). They are equally glad to wish any of their children or friends godspeed if they choose to seek service with the Windsinger or move on to explore life in other lairs or other regions. Although Keema is a dreamer and has an insatiable curiosity, his dreams and curiosity are directed toward enjoying the companionship of other dragons and exploring the world around him. His almost bitter rejection of his native land's obsession with theories is tempered by his tolerance of any, even those of the Arcane persuasion, who seek a home in the Windsinger's domain.
News on the Winds of March 2018: An Emperor Rises
Keema's first reaction is to evacuate the entire clan to the Starfall Isles.Keema: We must move the lair to the Starfall Isles! We must go immediately! Get everyone ready! Pack up and let's GO!" Keemara: We can't do that, dear. Just calm down. An emperor cannot reach us here in the Cloudsong. We are much safer here. The first thing to do is consult with Pansy. Keema: Oh! Of course. Pansy will know what to do. Because of the imminent threat, Keema has, at last, chosen to train in the Coliseum rather than spend his time exploring and listening to Goldleaf's lectures. It is time to get serious about defending the lair. On the 15th day of Water, Keema called all the lair together. He stood before his family and friends dressed in battle gear. No one had ever seen their beloved Keema in such attire before. "We are faced," he said, "with the gravest threat we have ever encountered. It is time for everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, to train to be able to do their utmost to defend, not just our lair, but the Windswept Plateau--in fact, all of Sornieth! For the honor of the Windsinger! Will you answer the call?" The entire lair shook with the resounding response: For the Windsinger! For Sornieth! On the 1st day of Lightning the council decided to evacuate to The Starfall Isles. This was done more to put Keema at ease than from any belief that it was really necessary. Most of the clan was delighted at the prospect of adventure in a new region. "Something new!" was the preponderant sentiment. They were there some months, but the denizens of the Isles were so...busy. And focused. Keema and his clan felt like intruders. Not unwelcome, but...unnoticed. "We make music and tell stories," said Keemara to Keema one day. "We dance and paint and put on plays. But no one in the Isles cares for our music, our stories, our fun-loving ways! We're just not fitting in." "We didn't come here to fit in," said Keema. "We came here to be safe." "Callest thou this living to be a life, so shrinkingly depending?" exclaimed StormLace. "I want an audience," she added in a whisper to Keemara. "No one outside our clan attends our plays." Goldleaf smiled at Keema. "My friend, we haven't heard any more news that could frighten us. I'm itching to explore again. Adventure calls! New lands await! How about the Ice fields?" "Ice!" exclaimed the other three together. "We'd freeze!" "No we won't, " said Goldleaf. "We have fire dragons enough to keep us warm. I hear you can carve out caves in the the solid ice and stay snug and very comfortable...given enough furry beasthides...and the Ice clans need some merriment to cheer up their time off from...from..." "Goldleaf is right!" StormLace interrupted, fearing he was going to say something discouraging like "from their grim duties" or "their hard, comfortless existence." "I understand there are beautiful snowy forests. We could rebuild among the tall, sturdy trees...and the wind through the branches will sing to us once again." "I've missed the wind's song," said Keema, his crest perking up just a little bit. The three waited for it... "Let's go!" His crest frisked with excitement. A year later, the Council called a clan-wide meeting. "Many of us are frankly tired of the cold. Many of us are homesick for the Windswept Plateau. And there are many of us whose hearts are firmly attacked to our home here in the Snowsquall Tundra. Our hearts are heavy, but the decision is made. We shall return to the Cloudsong. On the third day of Wind in the seenth year, the Council called a clan-wide meeting to discuss The Move. Many are happy in the Cloudsong, but many others (Snappers thud to mind) are not at ease there and in fact have made their "temporary" nomadic camps around the Windswept Plateau a permanency. Keema, the founder of the Clan, is looking rather pale but is determined to re-unite the Clan in a real home for all. Poor Keema. He is terrified of the emperor, and feels the Cloudsong is the only really safe place to be, but his Clan comes first. "Besides," he is reminded by his mate, Keemara, "Luminax has not shown any inclination to leave Emperor's Wake." Copalis, as the matriarch of the Snapper dragons in the clan, and as a representative of the Water dragons, was of course included in coming to the final decision. Goldleaf, a Light dragon, member of the Council, and Keema's best friend and life-long adventuring pal, eagerly recommended a site on the east, making exploration of all of Sornieth more convenient. The Decision: Singer's Brook A broad area of land on the edge of Singer's Brook, between the Reedcleft Ascent and the Zephyr Steppes, offers the most comfort for the most dragons: trees, open land, and water. Perfect.
