The other dragons probably thought he couldn’t hear what they were saying about him, but he did. Hawk knew what they thought of him, and for a while it hurt to be so othered by his own clan, but the real hurt came when they cast him aside like a piece of garbage. Their own healer, and without a word…?
Imagine for a moment foraging for food. The sky is painted a warm orange as the sun sets and there’s an abundance of fireflies that are crisp and fresh, the perfect treat for a summer night. Except, when the moon rises and Hawk drags himself from the forest to regroup with his clan, all he finds are empty tents and ashen pits where fires once sat.
For a while Hawk wonders where he went wrong. Was it something he said or did? was it because his magic stores were so small in comparison to theirs, or because of his defensive approach where they were so aggressively offensive? Or maybe there were signs that he missed, or worse still, maybe it was just… him.
Surprisingly, as time passes Hawk’s bitterness fades. Rather than pine for a clan that so obviously didn’t appreciate him, he takes their betrayal as a gift in disguise instead of a cruel curse cast upon him. And maybe it’s the Shadowbinder smiling down on him with pride in her heart, but no sooner does Hawk adopt this outlook he finds himself a new family full of dragons to heal and love with all his heart - and they love him just as fiercely.
