But no matter how much she hated to see something like that, she hated the Stormcatcher's wrath even more. Any step outside of his set parameters elicited a scornful rage and a shortened lunch break. So, she kept her mouth shut. Perhaps someone else would tell the boss and take the brunt of his anger. After the first wisp of information about the tests, it went underground. She hadn't heard from it for some time. She continued working as usual, and the thoughts were pushed the back of her mind. Everything was calm. A few months later, she received an order from her superior to go to the lightning farms to find several dragons and bring them to the spire for an unknown reason. When she questioned it, they threatened to give her longer hours, and she did as she was told. She arrived at the lightning farms with a list of three names. The first name read Sevastian. The paper said that he was storm-born, just as she was. Diane found the massive guardian transporting batteries to one of the factories. He wasn't a flamboyant dragon; he had scales the color of tempered steel and storm clouds, and piercing cyan eyes, brighter than any dragon she'd seen before. The only thing he wore was a sparse set of battlescale armor. When their eyes locked for the first time, Diane felt a rush of something flood through her. Realization. She realized what this guardian, along with the two other dragons on her list, was going to be used for. Those horrific plans were surfacing once more, except this time, she could do something about it. "Pack your things," she told the guardian. "You're coming with me." |

As they passed into the Windswept Plateau, they came into the company of a young wildclaw. The wildclaw, named Jasper, was spunky and easily excited, and asked if she could join the two on their journey. Diane was apprehensive, but Sebastian grinned and welcomed her along. Suddenly, they had a clan. A small one, but a clan nonetheless, and it would only continue to grow. Not long after, they were joined by two more dragons. A skydancer, Juro, and his adopted brother Thorn, a ridgeback. Their family was growing, and they needed to find a place to stay, hopefully for good. Soon, a structure in the distance caught their eye. It was the ruins of a broken lighthouse, built on a sandbar some ways away from the shore. The beach rose up into a sheer cliff, atop which was another, bigger structure. It was a ruined citadel. They touched down and began to explore the new location. Most of the structure was ruins, but there were a good handful of buildings still intact. One of the intact buildings was chosen, and they set up camp for the night. Fast forward to three years later. The clan is now a mighty clan, with many dragons and representatives from each flights' epicenter. Diane and Sevastian are still at the helm, with no plans to step down any time soon. She still remembers those two dragons on the list, wishing she could have helped them. |
