Biography

It was strange, being here again in the clan and the land he'd never thought he'd return to. When he left, it was to feel closer to someone, to something. He felt a purpose when he was with the exalted. But purpose wasn't why he was here now. No, it was a foreboding. There had been a storm, a terrible storm. Even down in the deep of the trench they'd felt it's wrath. He'd stood guard over a group of exalted hatchlings as the water churned and frothed around them, hunkering down against the immense current, digging his claws into the rock around the crevice where the exalted hid. As he clung desperately, an immense shadow surged passed them. He felt more than saw it's passing in the churning dark, but he knew what it was. The Tidelord was gone. Relief crept in; the Tidelord would fix this, end the storm and calm the seas. And the storm did eventually end, but the dread was still there.

After seeing the hatchlings back to their duties, he left. Alga didn’t intend to be gone long, and he wasn’t. After checking the spiral keep , he knew the Tidelord had not returned after the storm. The fear in his heart grew just a little, and he made the decision that changed everything. He was going to go back.

The journey back to the clan he’d left so long ago was a long one. He tired more quickly than he expected the first day as he swam against the slow but steady current that guided the exalted downward to their destination. The change in water pressure didn’t help either. More than once he was tempted to turn back as he saw one exalted after another jubilantly making their way to where they would serve the Tidelord. If he ever returned. That thought spurred Alga on, despite his exhaustion. He swam for days against that current without rest before he finally escaped it’s grasp.
Then he was back. After days of swimming, he’d found the clan right where he’d left from so long ago. It was just the same as he remembered, with Aava leading. And yet it wasn’t the same clan. There were so many new faces, so few familiar. It only stung a little that they didn’t know him. How could they? Only Aava knew him without a moment’s hesitation.

“Alga? You got my message!” She exclaimed when she saw him, swimming quickly over to him. She wrapped herself around him in a tight embrace

“I got no message,” he replied, his voice a hoarse rumble as too thin water passed through his mouth. “Tell me, what has happened? Where is the Tidelord?”

Aava reared back with a gasp. Beyond her several other dragons started talking quickly to one another. “What do you mean? We thought if anyone would know, it would be you.”

“He left in the storm. I don’t know where he’s gone. He never leaves the Keep,” he said. “I thought he came to the surface to calm the storm, but if you haven’t heard anything, that means he is truly missing.”

Aava shuddered. “I can’t believe he’s gone.”

Taking a deep breath, Alga made a decision. “He can’t be gone for good. Gods don’t work that way. In the meantime, I’ll stay with you as long as I’m needed.”

“Thank you,” she whispered. Behind her a crowd of strangers, now his clan mates, watched their intimate moment.

It was so strange to be back.
