His search came to an abrupt and perplexing halt, however, when he encountered the bones of a long-dead Imperial moldering in the Wispwillow Grove. Everything in him, everything that makes a Guardian what it is, told him that he had found his charge, his reason for being. He examined the bones carefully - the skeleton as a whole was not it. Nor was the skull, or claws, as some dragons had chosen, remnants of mighty fallen warriors. The heart had long rotted away, it could not be that either. But his charge was here, he knew it. With a massive foot he nudged open the jaw, and was startled to find a tiny Fae roosting within the head of the Imperial. She panicked, and burrowed deeper into the skeleton, where Sidhe could not follow. This was it. This small dragon was his life's path. But he could not reach her. |

Sidhe was determined. He set off once again, although now he felt an invisible cord, stretching back through the thickets to the tiny Fae he had left behind. He journeyed to the very center of the Shadow Lands, to the Forum of the Obscured Crescent and the Shadowbinder herself. The Shadowbinder was amused at his request at first, then taken aback at the devotion this Guardian had. Eventually she agreed to grant his wish and with the wave of a claw, Sidhe was transformed. For a moment, he was elated. He was a Fae! He was small enough to enter the skeleton and protect his charge! But his joy was short lived as the change took its toll. A Guardian's mind is far too large to fit in a Fae's body, and the resulting transformation broke his mind. He held on to one thought - find the Bones and protect the Fae. His frantic flight back to the rotting Imperial is lost to the recesses of his mangled memory, but he found himself at last in the sheltering bones of his new home, and finally in the company of his charge. He was a good Guardian. |
