Life was the sort of game where you get back what you put into it, and Treskana wanted above all else to have fun. From a young age she’d constantly been bombarded with Treskana relax or Treskana think things through or – and this was the worst of all – Treskana why can’t you act more like the other hatchlings. No one had ever been able to explain why she should bother, though, so she’d given them all the consideration they deserved (which was none. None consideration.)

Over-the-top-enthusiasm and love of risk-taking could actually take someone pretty far in life, especially if that person was interested in explosions. Fireworks started as just a passing interest like everything she did, but unlike most things it blossomed into a legitimate passion. Enough so, that she actually sought out a job in the field.

Only one dragon was willing to hire her for a hands-on role, so despite the dour attitude of her future boss she took the job. What was the point to joining a fireworks company if you don’t get to make and light explosives, after all?

Working with Nairene was a pretty sweet gig. It was nice to have someone look past her playful personality and respect her enough to give her responsibilities that actually mattered. Honestly, the only thing her life was missing, was someone to enthusiastically join in with her games.

Fireworks were serious business. Well, okay, so were most explosions, but especially fireworks because being given real responsibilities made her discover her fear of disappointing the others. She worked harder than she ever had in her life to become good at measuring and handling the powders, packing them with different materials, and recognizing when one of the rockets being assembled was faulty.

She threw herself into being a really real fireworker with everything she had. Just like she had with glassblowing. Just like she had with being a field medic. Just like she had with cooking and stunt flying and acting. So she lived every day in aggressive enjoyment of fanciful explosions, trying to drown out the creeping worry that this passion might fizzle out just like all the others.
