As Atlas descended like a meteor towards the land below, Qrow could hear someone screaming Ruby's name above the noise of the airship -- and belatedly, he realized it was himself. Staring down at Atlas with a wild, terrified expression on his face from the open bay door, any minuscule hope that he held in his heart that the kids had made it out alive was resolutely snuffed as the city finally hit ground with a thunderous noise, and melted ice water rushed to drown the fallen capital, and what was left of Mantle underneath. "No...." he exhaled, knuckles going white on the railing inside of the airship; it took all of his willpower not to collapse to his knees with how unsteadily his legs were shaking. Robyn was silent beside him, staring out at the destruction below, and he could feel the gazes of the remaining Ace Ops heavy on his back. "Qrow--" Robyn started, her voice soft against the winds whipping the open bay door of the ship; even such a small noise made him flinch, and he whipped his gaze towards her, a subconscious snarl pulling his lips back. "No." His voice was cold, unfamiliar even to himself, and Robyn flinched in return -- whether it was because of his slightly unhinged look, or his tone, was a mystery -- and frowned at him. "We should head to Vacuo," she said, as if he hadn't just snapped at her, "Shade Academy, Professor Theo--" "Doesn't matter!" he countered, practically yelled it... before slumping against the cool metal wall, like a marionette with its strings cut. His clothing fluttered with the jostling winds, his cape embracing him like a hug, just like-- 'Now is not the time to think about Clover.' He turned his head to stare out at the icy tundra below them, eyes scouring the planes of icy nothingness. There was no conceivable way, but maybe... "Just-- I'll catch up, alright?" "Qrow, don't you dare--" Her words were drowned out as Qrow launched himself out of the back of the aircraft with no other forewarning, falling out of sight only for a few moments before a crow reappeared, swooping at high speeds down towards the water-covered city. Robyn exhaled wearily and pinched the bridge of her nose before turning to make her way up to the flight deck, ignoring the myriad of glances that both her and the open bay door got from the Ace Ops. |
