Espes noticed things easily.
Not the generic things, no; their friends always teased them about how oblivious they were to most things, like how they didn’t notice two of their friends dating for months even though everyone else knew, or how someone’s mood would be lower — they weren’t perceptive enough to notice those.
But they were certainly perceptive to a degree. Enough to notice the differences that separates “abnormal” from “normal”.
Most usually had none. Some, a little. Some, far too much that Espes never wanted to be in contact with them at all. Usually, they could pin someone down accurately enough and figure out how to go from there.
Fern was the first that they couldn’t quite pin down.
