ABOUT
They/them

Nickname: Tch

One consciousness shared between the two heads. Heads move simultaneously or in assist to the other (like one craning their neck to look farther ahead like the other keeps their gaze on the dragon they're talking to), though only one speaks at a time. Doesn't seem to matter which head is speaking at the time, switches at random/convenience, though rarely in the middle of a conversation.

HUNGER OF BREAKING
The first time Tectonic snapped the bone in another dragon's wing, heard that clean, crisp break and felt one become two in their claws, they thought they finally knew what it was to fall in love. Pure ecstasy, delight, pleasure washed over them, and they've been chasing that initial high ever since.

It's not necessarily causing pain (though in their line of work, it often accompanies). But the division, the sundering, the crack and fracture and rupture and severance itself! Causing a whole to halve, to prevent it from ever uniting again. There's just something special about it, the ruination. No second chances, no take-backs, not ever looking back over your shoulder, never. Don't even think about the past, about once was. There is only now, and whatever lies ahead.

EARLY HISTORY
From crunching pencils and shattering ceramics to splitting river stones and smashing cast iron, Tectonic spent their youth slowly getting better at breaking bigger and harder things. Their parents did not like them in the lair, always causing a mess and destroying valuable possessions, and so they spent most of their time running about with the other kids of the clan, causing turmoil and wrecking havoc in other places. They admired snappers a great deal after a festival held a jaw-strength contest, and worked hard to build up the force in their own jaws.

By the time Tectonic grew out of adolescence, they had developed few other skills than cracking hard objects open with their teeth and claws. Their parents booted them from the lair, and few in the clan were inclined to take them on as an apprentice in any trade. They got a job hauling the waste-wagon around between dens picking up waste, then pulling it out to the trash heap outside of the clan, which was agreeable to them since they could break down the rubbish in any way they desired once taken to the heap. But even with an appointment they enjoyed, they found no joy in the clan, whom they knew merely tolerated them. No one greeted them when they came by to pick up their trash, or waved when passing on the path, or invited them to get-togethers or taverns or carnivals or any social event at all.

To get some sort of attention, Tectonic continued breaking things they shouldn't, which they knew was childish and petty, but at least then someone would look at them, even if only to scowl and yell. When at last their pranks resulted in the demise of the clan's prized waterwheel, they were driven out of the territory and told not to come back, ever.

When a band of robbers attacked them one night on the road, Tectonic fought back, and crunched through the armor of the lead rogue, breaking the bone in their leg. Impressed, the leader asked Tectonic to join up, and, knowing they had no skills, no friends, and no other future, Tectonic said, heck, why not?

They didn't stay with that band for long, as can be expected. A squad of professionally trained soldiers were sent out by a powerful clan's garrison to arrest the criminals, or at the very least scatter them to the hills. Tectonic was one of those scattered. But by then they'd found what they believed to be their true calling: beating the sh!t outta someone. They bounced between groups, sometimes roving, sometimes situated in towns, serving in a variety of roles and positions, all of which ultimately came down to letting Tectonic do what they did best. Breaking things. Rendering them into pieces. Smashing it all to dust.

BECOMING A CONTRACTOR
Tectonic was a little late in the join-up, sure. Didn't learn about 'em until the band traveled through the Ashfall Wastes not too long after the group formed. They heard the rumors about Independent first, which weren't flattering. Loud, brassy, flippant, far too eager to pick up even the most miserly of jobs. Hardly shooting for the gold mounds, that one. Tectonic was intrigued, but didn't think they'd ever cross paths, and anyway, they had a pretty good gig going right now, cracking skulls of drunken dragons too dumb to heed the barkeep's rules about taking brawls outside. The cook assistant always asked them to split open stubborn shellfish for him, too!

But cross paths they did, when Tectonic was hired as a bodyguard for a cousin of an important clan's leader—whom Independent was contracted to murder dead. The other guards were big, beefy dragons, neither stupid nor inexperienced, but the way Independent fought . . . she cut through them not like a knife, smashed through them not like a club, but tore through them as a hatchling rips their stuffed toy in a fit of righteous fury. But unlike a hatchling, she enjoyed it, without a single regret afterwards, when her teeth caught her quarry's throat and spilled it open.

Although their custody had been killed, the job failed, Tectonic leapt forward anyway. They didn't care anything about that, not with this mirror here! They lunged and caught Independent's helm in their jaws and crunched down with all the strength, and heard the metal shriek as it twisted and gave way between their teeth. Rather than panic, or call for help from her comrades, Independent laughed, and turned all her attention on Tectonic. It couldn't really be called a duel, or a spar even, when in only a couple seconds she had them on their back screeching, but the important thing is that everyone had fun.

For the first time, Tectonic asked to join Independent's mercenaries, rather than wait for an opening call for hires. To their utter delight, she said yes, on the spot. They formed a contract there and then, Independent their loyal leader, Tectonic her loyal Contractor. And Tectonic's never looked back.

They claim they'll get a rematch for that duel one day, but secretly hopes Independent will never take them up on that boast. Sparring just to train is, uh, more than enough of a thrashing.

SURELY THEY'VE GOT A HOBBY OTHER THAN BREAKING THINGS!
Sure. Tectonic loves dominoes. Whenever Independent is sequestered in the office of some pompous old *** negotiating the terms of their contract, her mercenaries left outside sitting around bored, Tectonic finds lots of small, thin objects to line up in long, curving rows, all set up very carefully and patiently. When Independent steps back out, they flick their claw, and watch in barely-contained elation as rapidly, one by one, each domino-like object falls onto the next and the whole thing crashes down, much to their deep, deep satisfaction.

They and Independent also like to sit down and rip an old boot to shreds together in companionable silence, much as two buddies might share a drink on the porchstep after a long yet fulfilling day of work.
