Separated from her parents and siblings at a young age, Butler was lost, scared and alone. Eventually she came across another hatchling, who she recognized as Fiddle. Fiddle hailed form the same clan as Butler, and, although they had never been close before, they now took comfort in each other's presence. They even came to regard each other as sisters. The two were then adopted by Violet, a Fae, and Tangerine, a Mirror. They were brought to a place called the Garden, and were raised alongside Violet and Tangerine's own hatchlings. The Garden grew and Violet and Tangerine continued to bring new hatchlings and even other adult dragons into their family. Butler was happy and loved, and only occasionally wondered about her old clan and biological family.

However, everything changed when Violet and Tangerine were called to serve the Gladekeeper with their hatchlings. Before leaving, they selected Butler as the new matriarch, or Gardener. Still a somewhat young dragon, Butler was unsure if the other dragons would follow her, as several of them were older than her. She worked hard, though, and earned the respect of the Garden.

She had her first clutch of eggs with Spice, resulting in her 3 daughters: Burnish, Elalee, and Floss. Burnish remained, taking a mate of her own and choosing to raise her hatchlings in the clan. Floss was called the the Gladekeeper, and Elalee left for Elsewhere.

Her second clutch, with Gnaw, went a little differently. One egg hatched normally, her first son, Hickory. However, her other egg disappeared, stolen away by faerie magic. Her daughter, Sylvia, was returned unharmed but changed by her exposure to wild magic.

As matriarch, her duties include guiding the other dragons, settling disputes, approving of dragons arriving from Elsewhere, and bonding with any unbonded familiars.
