Hadyl
Leviathan of the Cove

Quote or Role description

Personality
  • Cumulo tends to be very stoic, but it is all a deception, since she is constantly thinking of memes and silly little jokes.
  • He also really likes (stereotypically) collecting shells, and tends to give them to his boyfriend Esku.
  • Cumulo has a lot of textures that she doesn't like, and spends a lot of time in the water since its cooler and smoother
  • He's not very easy to be found (and some joke that he likes to immitate the tidelord in that regard (though never in his earshot)), mostly due to that he enjoys going out to find smooth little trinkets, rocks, and shells.

History
Hadyl never knew his mother. He knew that she, as one of the oldest Bathypelagic Giants to cruise Sornieths seas, would not remember him, and tried to not feel bitter about it. Soon after his birth, he had been abandoned, as had (he presumed) all of his siblings. The deep sea was not forgiving to any child, and even though the Bathypelagic Giants would grow up to be the cornerstone of a contained unit of deep sea community, a child of that size would cause too much strain on the resources. Thus, he was left to find his own way.
It was pure luck that Sandbar, on one of her routine gatherings of trinkets, had spotted a different Giant breaching the surface in the distance as she returned to the Shifting Expanse. Sandbar then reported this sighting to Lluvin, who had set out on her own search to see if she could find a new recruit. Lluvin had heard before that Bathypelagic Giants often left their hatchlings unreared, and she was loathe to let any child wander around and potentially starve. Lluvin spent many a day searching, diving into icy, turbulent waters and squinting through the murk to see even a flash of ghostly scales drifting through the water.
Eventually, Lluvin was succesful, and found Hadyl. She brought him back to the clan, where he was accepted happily.

As Hadyl spent more time in Grandrath, eventually migrating to the Oxbend cove, he learned more about the wide world of Sornieth. As he learned language, he made sure to express his gratitude to Lluvin for what he viewed as a rescue from the inherent loneliness his parentage would have promised him. However, he felt babied, as he had to learn things that many other hatchlings were almost born knowing. It was alienating, and even though he had recently met other dragons who dealt with an environment defined by it’s loneliness, he felt little connection to any of them.
It was one stormy evening that he had spent moping in a nearby bay that he felt a large presence pass through the water a few knots out. He went to investigate, hoping against all odds that it might be another Bathylpelagic Giant, but it was not. It was an injured Spiney Whale, one who had suffered a large attack. Hadyl felt pity for it, and brought it a chunk of meat. Hadyl was not accustomed either to the habit of eating any food that he was presented with, as Grandrath was wealthy enough that food was no problem. The Spiney Whale stuck around, begging for scraps as Hadyl visited every day until it healed. Eventually, Hadyl managed to convince it to return along the channel he had dug, to introduce what had become a familiar face to the rest of the clan. His taming of the first megafauna familiar was momentous for the clan, and was one of the first events that signaled the beginning of the Age of Friendship.
