BIRTHPLACE

Atlan, the Primal Child, was destined for greatness from the moment of his hatching. One might assume, quite understandably too, that his parents took to this foretelling when his primal eyes first blinked opened, but Atlan was no precocial newborn and his father far less present in his development. Aquaris only took one look at his son's unmistakably imperial nose chipping away eggshell from within before the new father denounced his offspring, deserting the hatchling den. It was well into the afternoon of Atlan's first day in this world when he was finally able to squint around the rather vacant lair. So the prophecy of Atlan's greatness certainly came before any were aware of his optic gift, and instead originated the moment his mother recognized his breed.
The only reason Atlan came to be at all was due to his mother Vyara's ambition. She intentionally sought out one of limited breed with rare genes to sire her offspring- the first generation of her royal army and step one in the development of her legacy. She understood the breed offspring odds, so her plan had accommodated time for multiple broods. However, the appearance of Atlan's tiny, whiskered snout, covered in amniotic fluid, meant Vyara's aspirations were suddenly tangible. When Atlan was finally able to peer about the lair himself with his swirling gaze, his mother became cemented in his destiny. Hatchlings, on the other hand, have little concept of legacy- any thought related to leaving the world so quickly after one arrives would be quite unproductive after all. Instead, Atlan along with his skydancer nestmates, Myla and Azure, were all very content to bumble exploratorily about the den for the first few days. They grew exponentially, both in size and their determination to venture the entire lair with each day soon thereafter. Vyara encouraged the curiosity, believing it nourished all she aspired her children become. Aquaris however, in some futile attempt to keep his intended from discovering his double-dealing, haphazardly detoured Zenith away from his illegitimate hatchlings' wandering. But discover them, Zenith did. Thus came the end of the trio's hatchlinghood. I'm sure you can recall when you first started truly making memories and becoming someone. Unfortunately for Atlan, this period of his life echoed with the anguished snarls of the heartbroken, whining cries for forgiveness, and a quiet, proud chuckle filling the silence between. It's difficult to discern who's speaking among dragons when everyone is shouting; caverns tend to make a cacophony of overlapping roars. Whenever he moved to hear more clearly, one or another adult swept him away, so Atlan was never able to distinguish the bellows. He was, however, kind to his core, and Atlan empathized with the beggar.
