Biography
Biography
Shabina was born to an upper class family within Lanternlea City. They made their money in the mining business, buying and managing some of the most efficient mines across Sorineth, shipping and distributing them around the world. To the public at large, they were paragons of achievement and kindness, giving a boost to less affluent clans and always walking around with a smile. To Shabina, however, they were the complete opposite. She knew who they were.
Behind closed doors, her family engaged in all kinds of immoral activity. They devastated local animal populaces whenever they moved into an area. The workers in their mines were tossed into the ocean. Those same clans that they helped out of crippling debt were signed into non-disclosure agreements when drills and plows started appearing on their land. She hated what they were doing- and how she was supposed to inherit all of their harm.
As she got older, the dawning date of her ascension to the role of owner started to weigh on her. She had everything a young dragon could want- a place to live, food on the table, even a party boat. But the fact that all of it came from her family made her sick to her stomach. And so, one night, she made a decision.
She listened carefully for snoring from her parents in the next room over. From there, she took everything that wasn’t nailed down, journeyed into town, and hawked it off at the nearest pawn shop for a nice pile of cash. They didn’t accept a few things, like her karaoke set and a bunch of random papers she took from the meeting room, but it was enough for her. After buying some normal clothes, something besides the suit she had to wear all of the time, as well as a couple of drinks for the road, she ran down to her party boat at the docks. She sailed it out into the Sea of a Thousand Currents, never to return again.
Though, as it turns out, returning wouldn’t be a problem. After a few drinks too many, she crashed her boat into a cave just below the Highland Scrubs. Panicking, she wandered around the open space- where she happened upon Souta, he runaway childhood friend, terrified with a bag full of stolen electrical equipment slung over his shoulder. Elated to find someone she recognized so far from home, she gave him a place to hide on the boat. They bonded again quickly, relating their lives in the interim years to one another. They started fixing the boat together- although they couldn’t put it out to sea again, they could make it a home. After some time, they decided to put the stolen equipment to use and start a radio station.
Reef Water Radio has been going strong for a few years, with others joining their little entourage over time. However, looking over the pages she stole all that time ago, she’s realized how essential they might be in exposing her family’s deeds once and for all…
