Svei didn't always exist. Of course, that applies to everyone, even the elemental deities themselves. But Svei knew he was different from them - from everyone. He doesn't bleed, and he understands he is a magical construct made of ice.

He was created by accident when Permafrost had a severe mental breakdown. He doesn't know why he's here, but the first thing he witnessed was Permafrost, curled up in a corner and gripping his head tightly, shaking violently and sobbing; his first thought was to investigate. Once Permafrost had calmed down, he asked him many, many questions, which piqued Permafrost's curiosity but did nothing to quell Svei's.

Svei is curious at heart, despite his cold appearance and non-expressive voice. He doesn't really understand how to communicate or act sociably, and only Permafrost seems to be comfortable with talking to him. Svei asks questions, and Permafrost answers. All they know is that Svei must have been created for a reason, even if he was created accidentally.

One thing the two of them quickly learned is that Svei was a walking magic well. Whenever they are close, Permafrost's ice magic is significantly boosted, and when they are apart, Permafrost's abilities weaken even beyond his capability before Svei was created. Permafrost is sure there is a reason for this, although his gene curse has not halted in any way.

Svei is also practically indestructible; if someone shatters him to pieces, Permafrost can bring him back to life. It is because of this, and the fact that Permafrost created him, that Svei stays close to the larger Imperial. He believes his purpose is to assist Permafrost and help him alleviate his pain.
