You're heard that this mystical place, where time seems to stand still, is where the Stars are born. A legend in itself, this sacred place seems to almost be alive, filled with the magic of the Moon. The sky, clouds and stars seemed aglow in an otherworldly aura, silently asking you for your wish. You whisper your wish, your voice carrying through the silence like a melody on the breeze. Your wish whispers through the sky and surrounds a dragon couple, Nova and Amaranth. The couple are cuddled together on a soft cloud, the moonlight softly shining on them. As they watch, your wish fuses with the stardust in the air to become a star. The couple gently adds their gift, a white peony touched by the Moon, to the forming star. The star gently glows, pulsing with life and forms into an adorable hatchling.
Sky's Rose
As delicate petals drift through the air, landing on all around, these dragons come out to watch. They are just as delicate and beautiful as the flowers they seek to emulate; they drift through the sky as though controlled by the wind itself. They are elegant and wondrous. Many dragons suspect these strange dragons to be an omen of good luck. Seeing them can only bring goodness and blessings. The rumored dragons don’t mind the theories and mysteries. In fact, they quite enjoy doing all they can to make the dragons they encounter happier. These dragons are kind lovers. They are eternally and shamelessly in love. They are almost always heralded by blossoms drifting through the sky, no matter the season. Sky’s Rose is loving, compassionate, and charitous. They believe all of dragonkind should have the opportunity to love and be loved as they love each other. They are most active in spring, but have been known to bring unseasonal flowers in the dead of winter. Once Sky’s Rose leaves, all can feel their absence. They bring warmth and joy and they leave dragons they encounter full of longing and desire. They only have eyes for each though; they will continue to drift on the breeze, trapped in the other’s gaze. |

~ Sweethearts Waltz ~
Beyong the realms of Reality and Wishes, lies a third magical plane, known to the Dream dragons. For generations, a bitter rivalry has existed between the Nightmares and the Sweet Dreams. While the former are a plague, infecting and deluding the minds of unsuspecting dragons, the latter are healers and champions, spreading beauty and joy to all those in need.Is it any wonder that Shu fell for Sweetheart? It began with the Moonportal. Sweetheart was a first generation Sweet Dream, born and raised in The Sunbeam Ruins. She was expected to remain at home, and heal the sick. But she had an adventurous heart. She saw the beauty in Reality, the things dragons could create... The Ruins weren't, well, ruins, they were proof of...life. And she wanted to inspire each of her charges to find purpose, hobbies, art and community, an appreciation for nature - anything, everything! A life of beauty, of dreams made manifest. And she was drawn to the gateway that had sat, dormant, at the edge of the Sunbeam Ruins for hundreds of years, and now finally had awakened again. The promise of new lands to explore, people to help, good deeds to do, all one pawprint away, was too much for her yearning heart to ignore. Every day she awoke, attended her duties, tilled her garden, worked her crafts, healed her charges... And every day's end, she couldn't help but be drawn back to the archway. She stared long into its shimmering, mysterious promise... Dare she?... Not today. Perhaps tomorrow? There were too many who needed her here... And she would end her days making silent wishes for the goodwill of all those in need of a sweet dream... Shu heard her heart's every desire. Being born of shooting stardust and a plucked Loves Me/Loves Me Not petal, Shu's entire essence was the stuff of soft, romantic dreams. He was made to soothe a yearning heart. In his own realm, he was wispy as the wind, as fleeting as good luck. But each evening, when Sweetheart bore her heart beside the Moonportal, Shu was drawn to her, essence to essence. And in this physics-defying space, this tiny tear in reality, Shu found it easier to condense into something more... real. Shyness and inexperience got the better of him. He hid as a cloud, a trick of the light, an echo of laughing gulls and seaspray... He was enamored with the way that all of Sweetheart's wishes were for others. He wanted to share her dream, not startle her out of it. But even if he'd wanted to POP into reality, he didn't know how. Affecting already living things was far easier than shaping himself. Little by little, he learned to use his magic to grant her blessings: A blooming garden, a cache of heretofore unscavenged tiles, a particularly pearlescent seashell... Sweetheart was no fool. She knew she was being followed by something. But what? Not a Nightmare, her new friend wasn't malevolent. A familiar of some kind? Whoever her admirer was, she didn't want to embarrass them by calling them out. They must have a good reason for being so discreet. Maybe there were benevolent creatures that lived in sweet dreams, the same way that Nightmares lived in their wicked fugue, and Sweetheart had inadvertently gotten one's attention? After the third or forth time that Sweetheart caught her shadow smiling and prancing of its own accord, she decided to call her new friend Shadow. (Shu didn't mind that she mispronounced his name, she got it mostly right.) She never asked her Shadow prying questions, like, "Where did you come from?" or "What are you?", but instead spoke to Shadow as if he had always been there: "These daisies look darling, don't they? Thank you for them, Miss Darla will love a bouquet to brighten up her bedside while she's on wingrest." "The crumpets are scrumptious today! Good thing you found that extra stick of butter. The children in the East Wing will love their snack!" "Those puckerberries were just the pigment I needed to brighten up this painting. That was clever of you, suggesting those." Sweetheart was profoundly thankful for her new companion, and not just because he was so helpful. It was nice to finally have someone to share her day with. Not just partaking in the activities. Someone who shared her feelings. Someone who believed, like she did, that brightening up another's day was a beauty and magic all its own... One fateful evening, as the first stars began to peek out, and the firebugs blinked their courtship dance, Sweetheart stood before the Moonportal, and sighed. For the first time, in a long time, she wasn't dreaming of anywhere else. "I've always loved twilight... No longer day, not yet night... It feels... It feels a bit like dream magic. Like anything's possible..." Shu, in the realm between realms, was right in the gateway's mouth, if only she could see. They both raised their paws longingly, as if they could push back an invisible curtain, and reveal the way to each other. "I wish..." Suddenly, it was like watching watercolors run. Out of the evening half-light, and the shadows of the trees. Out of the blue-green sky, and the rosy wildflowers. A wide face, perky ears, a feathered ruff, tiny paws... Shu coalesced before Sweetheart's eyes, her wish come true. Her friend! And something new. From someplace adventures are born... Wind fluffing his feathers, dry grass prickling his feet, warm stone against his wagging tail... The symphony of far-off family, and chirping insects, and rolling waves... The multitude of sensations flooded Shu properly for the first time, but it wasn't until Sweetheart had flown at him, wrapped her neck around his, squeezed his paws in hers, and crowed, "Hello, Shadow!" that he realized he was whole. "Hello, Sweetheart." |
