Biography
When Copernicus arrived in the lair, he found it in disarray. "Deus got lost again coming back from the Starfall Isles," MelonSlushie said to the matriarch, Nightdancer. "He can't keep the route straight. You know how he is: he flits around in the most circuitous manner, always distracted by something interesting, and when he's done exploring he's off the route and doesn't know the way back."
Nightdancer sighed. "I suppose we could assign someone to travel with him. But that would take them away from some other task."
Copernicus approached the two dragons. "Excuse me; I couldn't help but overhear. I've just come from the Shifting Expanse, on a journey to find a new home. My expertise is cartography. If you'd allow it, I could accompany Deus on his next trip and create a set of maps to help him find his way in the future."
"That would be splended!" Nightdancer said.
"But how are you going to follow him to make the maps?" Melon said. "You're too large to slip in where he goes. He'll just get lost again."
Copernicus sighed and looked over his large body. "You're right. There's no way I can fit into places a Fae can go."
Nightdancer said, "Well... if you'd be willing to take the form of a Fae, you could follow Deus easily and get those maps made for him."
Copernicus considered the offer. "You know, that's a good idea. As a Fae, not only could I follow Deus; I could access many small spaces I can't reach now and reflect what I find there on my maps. The change would make me a better map-maker."
Since then, Copernicus has been the lair's cartographer, and Deus no longer gets lost.
