Biography
Name meaning: Jekyll is a Breton surname derived from a Celtic male personal name (akin to Judicaël) meaning literally "generous lord".
Hyde is a topographic name for someone living on (and farming) a hide of land (Old English hī(gi)d). Also likely chosen due to sounding like the word "hide", as in "to put or keep out of sight; conceal from the view or notice of others".
Jekyll and Hyde got their rather turbulent start from deep within Quarantine Zone #128. They are the product of an experiment to cultivate a strain of plague that could not be destroyed by fire. Upon reflection, Jekyll surmises that the researchers might call the experiment a resounding success... if they had been allowed to keep the results. Perhaps the fire had burned too hot - Jekyll isn't sure - but something had awakened in Hyde which propelled him to break free of their confines and breach the outer walls of quarantine, plague and fire warring within them as they bounded across Sornieth for the first time.
Unlike Tree, who joined Haven around the same time, they do not go by a collective identity and prefer to differentiate between their personalities. If anything, they feel less like one dragon and more like brothers.
Jekyll has the more calculating mind and, when Hyde's hotheaded impulsiveness takes over their body to engage in a fight, will attempt to synchronize and strategize attacks where necessary, since that remains the only thing in his power during these episodes. Over time, they have figured out a system of coexistence that works for them, but Fire dragons with confrontational personalities tend to trigger Hyde's fight instincts, which certainly makes Bakugou an interesting clanmate for them.

ROLE: MATE: N/A FAMILIAR: Nephrite Chameleon (named Crossfade) NOTABLE RELATIVES: Prophecy (sister) Note: I keep imagining one of the heads trying to catch the fireflies in his mouth while the other just sighs in exasperation. Based on Jackson Jekyll and Holt Hyde. Jekyll is the head with ram horns and Hyde is the head with 3 eyes. |
