Regis

Regis the Regal, as he insists his lairmates call him, has always known that he was destined to be glorious. At least, this is what he claims. When one has witnessed him sobbing quietly in a dark corner or muttering to himself that he needs to do better, one cannot help but doubt that he really believes that which he so loudly proclaims. His mother Darla frequently looks at him with circumspect concern, but she is not really sure what she can do to help, especially as he goes to such lengths to pretend that everything is fine.

The truth is that Regis is motivated by the desire to protect and be of value to his family, but he does not have the least idea of how he can achieve this nor even where to begin. Even if his family was to tell him that he is valuable exactly as he is – as, indeed, his mother has – he would be unlikely to really believe them, never mind what he says out loud. After all, how can he measure his own value when he always, always believes that he could have and should have done better?
