______ Once a proud member of the Fullmoon Kingdom, Rippon was killed in an attack by no less than three separate herds all converging as one on the kingdom's lair. She fought side by side with her queen and clanmates, sustaining serious injuries in the process. However, it was not those injuries that brought her down in the end, but rather, a newly formed death bond between herself and Shifter, father of the queen's biological children. One minute, Rippon was fighting for her and her clanmates's lives, and the next, her eyes were rolling back, and she collapsed, already dead before she hit the ground.

______ And yet, Rippon couldn't let herself go, knowing her kingdom was in peril. She stayed, even as Shifter's spirit faded away, watching with baited breath as her fellow Wildclaws fought with tooth and claw, and made a heartbroken squeak in time with Sevim's death by Longneck hands. And it was with vindication in her eyes and bloodlust singing through her veins that she watched as her clanmates redoubled their attack, pushing back the Longnecks until they were forced to flee. They made the Beastclan herds pay dearly in blood for their trespass, as they should. And even though they could not hear, Rippon's roars of triumph joined her living clanmates as they announced their victory to the skies above and the Earthshaker below.

______ But even after the funerals were held, and her body laid beneath the earth alongside one far too small, Rippon found she couldn't move on. Couldn't leave as Shifter had, as Sevim had. And she tried; oh, how she tried. But nothing worked, and eventually, Rippon simply gave up trying. The Wildclaw settled down to watch, resolved to look out for her kingdom, but...she didn't anticipate the utter heartbreak she would feel, at watching her clanmates living and laughing while she remained dead. Dead and gone and unable to interact, to speak-

______ Rippon packed up, metaphorically speaking, and left, unable to bear the separation any longer. She wandered aimlessly across the Parched Canyonwalks, mindlessly putting one foot in front of the other in a depressed daze. At least, until the day someone poked her shoulder, startling her and making her jump half a foot. It was another Wildclaw, and she was looking straight at her.

______ She was looking at her.

______ Estatic, Rippon opened her mouth to speak, questions spilling out of her jaws, before the Wildclaw held up a paw to interrupt. Her name, Rippon learned, was Hokakask, and she was a medium for the dead. The two talked, before Hokakask invited her to come to the Everdark Jungle with her. She could make Rippon able to manifest corporally in the world of the living, she explained, and Rippon jumped at the offer. As promised, Hokakask took her with her to her home, and after getting the ritual prepared, solidified Rippon's presence on the mortal plane.

______ The blue will-o-wisps floating around her - something Hokkakask had told her to expect - were strange, but not terribly so. And now that she was corporeal, the other Wildclaw offered to bandage her wounds. Something Rippon happily took her up on, even though they both knew the things would never heal. They didn't hurt - the dead don't feel pain - but they would never go away. Curious as to her new form, Rippon asked for a mirror...and then screamed at the sight of her face.

______ Her eyes. No longer were they a pale, pastel pink, but a solid, dead white, no irises or pupils to be seen. Hokakask was quick to try and calm the other Wildclaw down, which took almost ten minutes before Rippon felt like she could breathe again. Figuratively speaking, anyway, though the panic gripping her chest and squeezing the needless breath from her lungs was all too real.

______ Rippon could never return to the Fullmoon Kingdom. She didn't belong - a shade walking the earth, with eyes as dead as she was. She'd be run out at best, or brutally killed for the second time at worst. And Rippon couldn't bear the thought of seeing her clanmates look at her as though she were a monster. Something to be feared.

______ That was how the deceased Wildclaw came to live in the Everdark Jungle. While it took some time, Rippon was able to come to terms with what she was, and while she would always miss her kingdom, she settled into her new home. She was happy here, she realized. Happy and safe and loved. And for the dead, that was everything she could ask for and more.
