Biography
Twin sister of Emil, separated by fate's cruel hand.
In younger days, a fire broke out upon a ship in the Thousand Currents. With only enough room for a handful of people aboard a rescue boat, a boy let his sister and their childhood friend go on ahead of him. His sister gave him the necklace their mother gifted her long ago, so that they could be reunited when all the boats hit dry land. The twins promised each other that they'd see each other soon; all they had to do was get to shore.
Only one sibling would find safety on the sand.
For years, Marliese and Balsam stayed put in the town that took them in after the fire, holding onto a desperate hope that Emil would show his face one day. Fate would not be so kind. Marliese would have to accept the harsh reality of the situation: Emil was dead. He was lost to that fire or sunken at the bottom of the Great Sea, and she would have to move on without him.
She did just that.
With Balsam in tow, Marliese set off across Sornieth. Afraid to cross the sea that claimed her closest of kin, the pair traveled around Water territory entirely. They eventually settled in Willowgarde, the peaceful life it provided becoming a much-needed place to process grief. With time, Marliese became a staple part of the quiet town. Known for her green thumb, she runs a successful farm and makes a good living off her yearly harvests.
Rarely, on restless nights, she can be seen sitting at a cliffside facing the Water border.
