Biography

Twin brother of Marliese, separated by fate's cruel hand.

In younger days, a fire broke out upon a ship in the Thousand Currents. With only enough room for a handful of people aboard a rescue boat, a boy let his sister and their childhood friend go on ahead of him. His sister gave him the necklace their mother gifted her long ago, so that they could be reunited when all the boats hit dry land. The twins promised each other that they'd see each other soon; all they had to do was get to shore.

Only one sibling would find safety on the sand.

When Emil finally came to, he found himself precariously placed atop a piece of driftwood in a vast and lonely sea. Marliese and Balsam were nowhere to be found. He could only hope they made it to safer waters. It felt like days before the sight of a ship on the horizon caught his eye; never had anything felt so much like home. The waves threatened to drown out his voice, but somehow he managed to catch the attention of the crew aboard the ship. As he was pulled aboard the mighty brigantine, he quickly realized that he'd not been found by simple sailors...

Despite this, he made a place for himself.

Emil was taken under the wing of the ship's captain, a stern but deceptively kind hand. Life was not easy aboard a pirate ship, but he made do with the second chance he was given. A dependable lad with a sharpshooter's aim and a knack for magic, he eventually rose up in ranks and was fully accepted into the crew's fold. No longer was he the soft boy he used to be all those years ago.

Some nights, however, Emil can be found up in the crow's nest.

An old necklace, its metal worn down over the ages, turns over and over in his fingers.

There's something he's still looking for.

Something more valuable than gold.
