It wasn't that the egg never hatched...it did. It was rather, what lay within was unlike anything they'd ever seen before...

In an area that borders the veil between life and death so closely, perhaps this was just to be expected. Except, numerous nests had been laid in Leylight and all had hatched healthy hatchlings. This one, perhaps, had just been cursed from the start.

Maybe it was because Erembour, so eerily reminiscent of a wraith hound, was so marked by death that he was no longer just of the land of the living? Maybe he'd dealt with death magic and nightmares for so long, that it had left him twisted at the very core of him. Maybe even, since he had been sent here by the Imposter Queen to kill Lunnox, he'd had a curse laid into him all along, a fail safe in case he couldn't do what he had been sent to do.

Whatever the reason...the first egg to Lunnox and Erembour's nest hatched into something that wasn’t entirely alive… It looked at first to be a pair of sickly skydancer hatchlings fused into one, but in the end, whatever they were...they were aberrations. Not normal. Unlike anything anyone in Leylight had seen before.

They were a phantom of the hatchlings they had been meant to be and perhaps they should have been culled. But a mother's love is a daunting thing, and a father who was darkness himself would hardly turn from something eerily mirrored of himself.

The two headed, two-tailed hatchling was unlike anything anyone in Leylight had ever seen before. One head looked more like a wraith hound had twisted into a dragon, both ghostly and skeletal. The other looked…mostly normal? And each head was as different in personalities, genders, opinions…as two separate hatchlings would have been. Therefore, they were named such: Haunter and Hysteria.

Haunter was the more skeletal of the two, always grinning, always laughing. Hysteria was more reserved at first glance, when in reality she was simply more cunning. Sly. Always watching for the right time to make her move, while Haunter just leapt full in, full blast, at all times. And while both heads have mastered teh ability to spirit shift–their secondary forms are as different as their primaries. While Haunter is skeletal, with plumes of wisps rolling off him–a wraith hound to the core of him, Hysteria is a sleek brilliant blue wolf reminiscent of their mother.

Together they make two sides to the veil of life and death. With one head on one side of the veil, the other on the other. They often ferry lost or struggling souls across the veil. The sigil they wear at the crux of her two heads is but a vessel for the souls they ferries between life and death, from Hysteria into Haunter...and finally to that place beyond the veil. Where spirits of the dead dance in eternity.

Life and death. Dream and nightmare. Darkness and light. They are each two sides to the same coin.
