- y'know, i've been worried about mokalaosa reading as too immature for awhile. like she's an immature person but all the significantly older characters around her coddling her doesn't let her look like the college-graduate inquistitor she is
- like she's older than nevanke
- and someone that calls her mom sure ages her quite a bit
- if you jokingly refer to yourself as mom around the kid your husband adopted enough times, it stops being a joke
- what are you gonna do, tell the kid to not call you mom??
- she genuinely didn't get the joke about moka calling basso's adopted kids her kids (as they're generally grizzled sellclaws thrice her age and not an actual child)
- she's just trying to hit social cues really hard because she was a feral child & doesn't pick up on subtleties
- likewise, at virulent, she noted the 'refer to unrelated older dragons as your aunts and uncles as a sign of respect!' and turned around and bulldozed cain with 'uncle'
- you're causing even more problems with whatever your mom and her co-worker's relationship is by doing this
the factory bosses paid pennies for an eighteen-hour work day, scarcely enough each month to pay for your family's tenemant room and slop pot stew. if you wouldn't work, there were plenty of others who would
- the point city was always one of the largest settlements in all of sornreith, the entire isle that the observatory was built on paved and bricked over
- the tens of thousands who fled to the city after the war, after the collapse of their clans and flights, and all those descended from them, made it the largest in the world

- digging up the nests of the great hawkbill goliath and crystalhide jesters, the treasure those eggs fetched well worth the risk of the jaws of those monsterous sea turtles and the knives of your fellow dragons

- loves her grandpas & half of the time mokalaosa gets guilted into going to the family dinners because she wants to see them
- moka stops avoiding her family and problems because of the kid
- too depressed to hose the dried blood off your entire apartment? Kids Will See It
- avoiding going to the doctor about your mysterious medical issues? well you gotta because it's getting in the way of taking care of the kid
- started living in virulent full-time so she wouldn't miss doses of her girl juice, since deliverys to the burrick can get a little spotty sometimes
- is an obelisk because using a breed-change scroll before a surgery is way, way safer with the 1850s medical technology we're dealing with. the metamorphosis state basically removes all risk or chance of complications
- so she moved into virulent as not quite an adult yet?
- i don't think she lived at the burrick as long as a year, she left pretty early to go live with her mom
- didn't say 'i'm moving out' just left for the treatments and never came back to living there full time
- still visits frequently, with or without moka
- remember kids, its not stealing if its for the deities
- also stealing is just motivated by want, and we got free food and healthcare baby
- and 'if you steal from your clanmate they can and will eat you' is a huge motivator to kick the habit
- instinctly pickpocketed cain the first time she met him and went running over to moka with his pocket watch as soon as he left, looking for approval, and the negative reaction Hurt
- can vaguely identify a lot of raw goods and equipment that comes out of the arcane isles, ie, what the privateers find on arcane ships
- the arcane isles are Right There. the virulent raiders are absolutely targeting their ships
- seriously a solid 2/3 of hits are on arcane ships
- so she got included on cargo sorting so she could feel included
- and also because she learned to read by curse glyphs
- needs a wand to concentrate but she's nifty at a lot of little charms
- all of that hanging out with her grandpas + dad was training for her career, which is hanging out with all the other cargo appraisers, who all happen to be old men
- you reach the virulentian port and five old men and a teenaged girl with a rainbow theme rolls on board
- they're all grumpy and bitter but they can't be mean to her, that'd be messed up
- otherwise she's really interested in working with Fabrics both weaving and sewing
- when the Raiders come back with like some Noble dragons entire closet and they dump it on the floor so everyone can go through it it's like Black Friday
- she loves ridiculously elaborate outfits so she helps out with the theater a lot
- lelebetis is her best friend
- a sullen hatchling turned into a bubbly young woman
- what would have become of her if she's gone onward on the beach? the boneyard?
- virulent is the only way she could achieve her happiest self and she knows this
- she doesn't like talking about her childhood and had nightmares for years of this all slipping through her fingers
- she has moka's temperament and style without the checks
- moka LOVES frilly clothes and spent her first paycheck on a dress she keeps in a box and never wears out of fear of ruining it

- anyway she met tviravakos through seeing her around at raider events (festivals, the appraisals, etc)

- and began giving her bolts of arcane fabrics, whole outfits from the icefield to cut up, and other daily life things
- listen okay so raiding is obviously a big deal in a raiding clan
- you can live comfortably with second hand items
- but having a raider in the family means you have nicer things to a noticable level
- being able to shower gifts on your friends and family is a point of pride for virulent dragons
