Biography

Divinity burned, a trembling mass of light clutched tightly in his wavering grasp. Scales scorched and peeled away, flakes of what he once was now lost to the fever that consumed him. Taking the essence of heat between his teeth he could not feel each thin needle of ivory turn brittle and shatter under the heat but he could hear it, the consequences of his actions chiming out their sharp alarms. Then he swallowed, a dire mistake that would cost him more than he could ever afford to pay. There was something running through his veins and it was not blood, it ran hotter, liquid flames that coursed through his arteries and ate into his flesh. He had done it, Apophis could only look on in envy as he devoured the sun. There was a time after when the burning stopped, after he had been fully consumed by flames, where he was finally warm. It was pleasant, gentle, yet it did not last. The burning began again. Set aflame once more he became something else, something infinite and undying. It was cruel and tragic, a mockery of an ouroboros instead of the god he was supposed to be. A phoenix reborn from ashes only to find that it had been reborn into a life it had already lived, faced with suffering it already knew. An angel damns itself to hell for a taste of forbidden fruit. He could not return to what he once was, could not undo the damage that had been done. He was already dead. The sun burned away not just his claws and his throat, it went deeper, burning into his very soul. Not only had he killed his mortal form in his desperate grasp for immortality, he had burned away his very soul. Leaving behind only a husk of what he once was, a host to liquid flames. The parasite he infected himself was eating away at him from inside. Revenge was a bitter thing, and so that's what he became. A bitter host to flames, dying yet unending. He could not turn the blame for this misfortune upon any other, any sorry beast could tell the fault was solely his own. By his own design, the only casualty in his endeavor could be himself. A snake digs its fangs into its tail and wonders why it has begun to bleed. Something that was once a dragon stands under a vacant sky and burns.
