Baphomet With his… partner.
Baphomet slouched on his side of the gate, with his partner Hecate on the other side. His eyes are focused on a creature across the deserted, magma-cracked ground. It's a small creature, with black skin and red crystals that leave flakes along the ground. Usually, this creature stands atop a perch on an obsidian tower, but lately it's been sneaking closer to the gates of Hell.
He only noticed it a week ago, but the creature has been watching him and his partner guard the gates. Perhaps it's getting bored of its duty, and wishes to adventure? Such a thing is inadvisable, as the duty of a guard is one to be honored greatly, no matter what it is that you're required to protect.
By now, Baphomet has grown used to the creature's routine. It stands still as a stone, perched on the tower until a dragon comes along. It shrieks as it leaps down, which scares the dragon off. The screech is so loud that it's audible from the gates. He believes Hecate already tuned the shrill noise out, as she never mentions it.
Even on the windiest days, where the gusts are so strong that he and Hecate are blown off, the creature sits perched atop the tower. At times, he wonders if it's a living gargoyle.
Today, the creature does something new. It travels further, out of its territory, approaching the gates. He notices Hecate staring down at it, and she speaks firmly to it, "Back away. You are not worthy to tread here, nor are you permitted to."
Baphomet watches the creature grin as it takes a seat in the center of the empty space. It looks between him and his partner. He looks to Hecate, saying, "You only just noticed? It's been watching us for days, from that obsidian tower near the pit. It perches there for hours, unmoving even at the strongest gusts of wind!"
Hecate seems to be in deep thought at his words, before she looks at the creature again and asks, "Why are you here, creature? Speak your name and reason."
The creature is still grinning just as widely as it says, "I am Apollyon, and I wish to sit upon the palace to guard it."
The palace? This area is forbidden to anyone outside of the Chosen. This creature is a foolish one.
Baphomet is surprised to hear Hecate say, "This palace is sacred territory, Apollyon. You're not permitted to enter. If you work diligently guarding your tower, you will be given permission to stand with us."
He looks at her in shock while the creature strides away. He asks, "Are you sure about this, Hecate? What if it's a trap?"
Hecate flicks her tail, saying, "Baphomet, you worry too much. I sense no danger from this creature. We still must stay alert, but an extra companion will be beneficial to us."
Baphomet slouches again with a sigh. Even though he believes his partner is too trusting at times, her judgement is always correct. He looks at Apollyon, wondering if it will truly get permission to guard with him and Hecate.
Once again, HoppingFridge created the first bits of lore. I simply fleshed it out.
