"He is finished now," the skydancer said as he stepped back, admiring his handiwork.

The imperial's new mind instantly settled on thirty-seven different interpretations of the statement. He calculated the probability of each one being the intended meaning, and then tucked all the data away without a word.

Zaskarel turned to Idris, continuing his explanation in the manner of one speaking to a young child.

"He was very old when I found him! He is a perfect ice dragon now. He has an excellent memory. He collects data. His old claws and teeth have been replaced with metal. And he is as emotionless as they come, without those pesky concerns and fears."

Zaskarel's eyes sparkled with delight and puffed out his chest proudly. His spectacles reflected a few sparks of electricity. Idris pointed to the imperial's expression, which was frozen in a metallic snarl.

"Why is he making that face?"

Some gears clicked and whirred. A few subroutines initiated and he briefly felt a flicker of outrage, but they were quickly suppressed by Zaskarel's newest augmentation. The imperial settled for thrashing his tail to and fro, destroying a workbench, a toolbox, and a nearby shrubbery.

Zaskarel considered before explaining, "He does that when one of the gears turns clockwise."
