The Gloomstone clan didn't always live in the caves hewn into the cliffside rocks along the beach. Once they lived much further inland, on land which is now called the boglands. Back then the forest was lush and wild, where the Glym, elf-like creatures who founded the clan, could practice their magic in peace.

Oracle was the son of the clan leader, destined to take his mother's place in the clan. Oracle was gifted with a natural talent for magic, one the clan celebrated. Wreathed in fragrant incense and flickering candlelight, Oracle worked towards understanding the arcane, and harnessing the power of magic. For magic cannot come from nothing, and much of the Glym's magic came from rare gemstones mined from the Earth. Oracle sought to cast magic without such grounding gems, to forge it from life itself.

But to dabble in magic is to invite chaos, and Oracle's experiments went awry- unleashing a powerful storm of magic that swept over the land consuming all it's path. Those who remember it called it the Scourge, for it took many lives, twisting the land into something foul. Only a handful of of the clan survived, and they fled to the coast, to pick a more meager life among the damp sea water caves.

Oracle's punishment was two-fold. He lost sons and daughters to the Scourge, his mother, his friends. Of all his children only one daughter survived, but she was so twisted from the Scourge's influence that she was a Glym no longer, and the clan was forced to drive her away. Oracle himself was stripped from his magic, bound in magical dampening chains to prevent him from attempting such a thing again.

He is a shadow of himself, but still searches for a cure for his daughter, holding out hope that one day he can atone for his sins. The clan mostly leaves him be, though sometimes the Gloomer pirates gather in hushed reverent silence in his cave, to have their fortunes read or to deposit tomes of knowledge they come across during raids in exchange for gems and trinkets.

Tarot, Oracle's mate, has remained so, though she doesn't tend to visit him much, citing that it pains her too much to remember what was lost. She runs the clan now, with a much firmer hand.

Oracle is mated to Tarot, the two having been together for many seasons. Tarot loves him still, and the two still share a chamber, but their relationship is not what it once was.

LILITH
In his pursuit of knowledge, Oracle dabbled in unstable magic, which led to his daughter, Lilith, being transformed into a dark and terrible creature. Guilt ridden, Oracle spends his time searching for a cure.
