Mars was born in the Verum Adamas Realm while it was still being constructed. The young hatchling had a brother named Root, though he'd been sickly and weak since hatching. One day, while they were still very young, she'd woken up alone in her nest; Mars never saw her brother again. That same day, the nest-helper's eggs hatched healthy except for one that failed. The skydancer was too young to understand death at the time... but it wasn't long before she learned. The next day, she'd lost her mother to grief. She'd woken up with her mother still in the nest but Summerbloom had been dead a while, her scales cold to the touch.

At first, she blamed Root for the death of her mother. If he hadn't been so sickly then he would still be alive, which would mean their mother would still be alive! Mars had been dumped off at the library while the adults took care of the situation. Later on, she'd learn of one of the librarian's demise while gathering quills for ink. It was then that the young hatchling began to wonder if she was cursed. The idea was built on coincidences and far from factual but at her age, it seemed so reasonable. It had to be true. Mars didn't tell anyone of her theory and actually became mute altogether. She'd cried herself to sleep vowing not to let herself get close with any other dragons.

Upon growing up, Mars stuck to the fringes of the kingdom. She tried to participate and pull her weight when needed but for the most part, it was unlikely other dragons even realized she existed. It was about the time after a festival to celebrate the kingdom's progress that hatchlings began dying in excessive amounts. Rumors of them being cursed were whispered through the kingdom, reaching the skydancer as she lurked. Mars withdrew more, believing that somehow it was her fault. That she'd cursed them to die just by being in the area.

But then her life got worse when she met a mirror named Rasul. She'd seen him around and knew he was sketchy at best, not to mention she could read a bad aura from him. He'd wanted to strike a deal: pretend to be mates to give him an alibi, hoping to avoid other dragons finding out about his real hatchlings. Rasul had claimed it was to protect them from dragons who may seek revenge against him and that he could cure her curse. So she'd been persuaded. And then the consequence came when two of the hatchlings disappeared. Rasul turned on her in an instant once she confirmed the hatchlings had indeed been his, unlike his earlier claims.

He'd attacked her and she'd retaliated... but it was too late. Rasul's real mate, Levana, had cried out about the curse the skydancer had mentioned and the rest of the kingdom turned on her, including her own father. Mars fled, knowing she couldn't return. Alone and so close to Verum Adamas' enemies, she was found and brought to the Adamas Realm as a prisoner. At first, they wanted to use her as an assassin, claiming to have a cure as well. She'd once again agreed after recieving the bottle with the cure in it, though it wouldn't open until her end of the deal was completed.

Her first act had been to kill Levana in revenge, leaving her where Rasul would see. Most of her duties following that were to care for Manik, a prisoner of the Adamas Realm and heir to the throne of the Verum Adamas Realm, and continuing to strive for her own revenge against Rasul. Ultimately, she failed after the mirror and his spiral son, Chronos, fled the Verum Adamas Realm. Luckily for Mars, her life had been spared after Rabbit spoke to King Tantris and told her the truth about her curse—or rather lack of.

Unlearning her self inflicted belief that she was cursed was a long process. However, the skydancer has been able to move on from her past. She still hates Rasul but no longer cares about her birth home, having complete loyalty to the Adamas Realm now. She'd heard under Eris' rule it had been a better place but she thinks Tantris, while cruel towards lesser subjects, hasn't threatened her. As a messenger, she's kept busy anyway so it's rare to have time to dwell on past events. Most of her messages are to the dragons at House Gemini for assassination missions.
