Merle is best known for his poisonous wit. It's perhaps a defense mechanism he formed during his hatchling days in Plague-- he was frequently ridiculed for his fascination with magic by his much more brawn-oriented hecklers. Viewing their violent natures as nothing more than sheer idiocy, Merle rolled his eyes for years and eventually left Plague, seeking "companions with at least an average IQ" and knowledge of new spells.

He was captured by sky pirates but quickly assimilated into their ranks as a spell technician, finding their roguish lifestyle much to his liking. Their crew was separated by a bad storm some time ago. Although he made sure to let each group member know every day how much he hated them, now that they're gone he's not sure what to do with himself. Consequentially, he seeks them out. So far he's only been able to reunite with Erion, a fellow spell technician and good friend.
