Jay is good at getting himself into life-threatening situations. He fled his last clan after getting into a fight with a Ridgeback twice his size over money Jay borrowed to feed his gambling addiction. That was neither the first nor last fight he has been involved in, and the scars on his legs provide evidence of that.

Despite how tough he tries to appear, Jay stutters and has trouble talking to girls. He gets nervous, and when he's nervous, he stutters even more than usual. Gambling is the only time he appears confident, and it's almost like he takes on a whole new personality.

His only friends are his Rasa, Lucy; his daughter, Sangria; and Darius. Jay has a bit of a crush on Darius.

Black Sheep;
Jay befriended Pearl and several times defended her from those who claimed she had joined the Black Sheep. He had doubts of her innocence, but could not see his only friend lynched. He remained loyal to the end, which was the death of him when Pearl snapped his neck.

Since coming back from the dead, Jay is more solemn and silent, and his stutter has worsened. He has lost his faith in the Lightweaver, even though it was her magic which revived him. This has put him and Fleur at odds, and he is pulling strings to put Moira at the head of the Clan.
