Cloudsinger

"When the 14th petal falls from the sakura tree,
so will rise the blackened moon,
and as it's shadow cloaks the world in darkness
from silver blossoms light will bloom..."

202022, the numbers etched forever into the minds of the dragons of Sornieth.
The day Cloudsinger was born.

What should have been a joyous day, was mired with darkness as a terrible evil swept through the world.
The little Gaoler splitting open his egg, not to find his first light, but instead a world of night.

For in the sky hung an eerie moon, so close to Sornieth that it seemed to fill the whole sky, greedily blocking out any light from the sun.
The little hatchling blinked at the world, wondering what all these screams of terror were as they reached his ears.
They unnerved him.

He cradled closer into his mother as the cries turned angry and came closer. He could only watch as the claws of the crowd tore into the birthing den and the dragons poured in.
"It is he", one screeched, pointing an accusatory claw in the direction of the little hatchling, "the 14th!"
His mother rose to her feet, standing over her hatchling, snarling,
"You will not take him from me."
As the angry roars rose from the crowd, the little hatchling instinctively fluffed himself up as best he could. He could feel their hate like fire on his fur.
As he braced himself for what might be his end he was shocked to suddenly find himself wrenched up by his scruff.
His mother, having been backed into a corner, could only see one way out - forwards.
She bowed her head, pointing her antlers at the intruders, and charged.

Through the furore of the crowd, she kept charging, ignoring the sting of teeth and claws in her sides and when finally, she burst through out the den, she kept running.
Her baby closed his eyes as the ground rushed out beneath him and the wind whipped into his eyes.
Despite the peril of the situation, he could not help but feel excitement at an experience like this.

After what felt like only a few minutes, his mother came to stop and placed him on the grass, panting hard.

He looked up at her, and let out a triumphant chirrup but was surprised to find only sadness in her gaze.

"My little son...you must run, far, far away from here."

He blinked up at her, somewhat grasping the meaning of her words. But why?

There were shouts in the distance.

"Remember, my son, no matter what they might say or think you are... "

She let out a sob as she pushed him away,

"...you are Cloudsinger, and you will save us all."

Thank you, Heart!

Cloudsinger's young and small wings pushed violently against the air, just to keep himself aloft. He had no clue of how long it had been since he ventured from home, but it was long enough to see the phases of the moon pass by. Across a strange new plane, only a single dragon ever passed the gaoler on his journey to somewhere else other than home. He was scared of the other dragon, but pushed on upon knowing the other had not seen him. The glistening waters held dangerous shadows as he approached a large, barred island that radiated with energy...
Hopeful, he pressed on until colliding with golden blades of grass, almost tripping. Though, even if he were to trip, he would have been caught by a large, golden figure. Fear rang through his mind, terrified that he'd be hunted again.

The dragon spoke in tongues, before swapping to accented, yet coherent words. "Oh, traditions continue on... Much like me, another spawn of a far off land makes their way here... Have you been followed, or have you travelled alone?"
He shook his head, he had gone alone after being forced away from home, but something about this new land sparked curiosity. Tail beginning to sway, the large dragon bowed her head.
"Come along, dear one. The night is quiet now, and we shall give you a warm welcoming into the valley."

A brilliant day, the glowing sun casting upon leaves that fell from the trees. Anxiota had taken note of the hatchling, never seeming to grow, but still proving to be smarter than average. A subtle tickle of a leaf unleashed a tiny, but powerful sneeze as the winds blew harsh and sudden. It startled the golden dragon of light, until realizing... No storm came with it. Another sneeze, another gust. Just one more step to revealing that this youngling, despite seeming so weak and fragile, was more powerful than the motherly figure could have ever known.
"Cloudsinger, child of the wind. You may not see it now, but despite all odds, I see your future being bright, inside this valley that holds so much darkness. Believe in yourself, and I shall help you with what you need to become strong, even if you never become old."

02/20/2022
A day no dragon would forget.

It was hours after his arrival in this plane, but yet he was shunned. Pushed away from his home. He fled as far as he could, under the wishes of his mother, for his young mind could still remember.

A solar eclipse casted over his birth, and yet, the sun shone so brightly in his new land, always watching him in a warm gaze. He remembered what she told him months ago, he remembered what she wanted.

His quiet, gentle voice casted a soft wind, whipping the new blossoms weakly from their trees. They twirled and swirled, eventually making the shape of someone so familiar to his eyes.

He could not touch the windswept figure, but it acknowledged him, a gentle nod before blowing away.

Cloudsinger pawed away tears from his eyes, clouds gently moving in across the sky, but keeping the sun ever shining on the land. A gentle drizzle, as soft as his weeping.

The wind called, muttered, whispered his name. It knew what she said to him as well.

"...you are Cloudsinger, and you will save us all."

Finally, as he forced his eternally youthful voice to form words, he spoke in the first language he heard, one that he kept forever in his mind as an etched memory.

"I am C-Cloudsinger.. and I will save them all."
He opened his wings, the wind holding him up.
"I will save them all."
He took a running start, paws trekking against the golden grass.
"I will save you all."

In an instant, the wind carried his body into the air, mere feet above the earth, but steadily rising. The wind sang in victory, in praise of the youngling for flying once again.

Cloudsinger will save them all.
