The doors of the city close. The bells ring. Coughs and moans of pain can be heard throughout the streets but what exactly is happening? As the physician of this town, you should know. You always know. Except this time.

As you hurry towards your home, a foreign silhouette stands in front of your door. They are wearing a mask, bird-shaped with red eyes. They are so tall, they almost blend in with the shadows surrounding the both of you. No one seems to notice them. There is something wrong, that much is obvious.

A breath escapes them, shaking. You can barely hear it but its smell somehow pierces the leather. It's sweet. Too sweet.
You're not quite sure what it smells like, only that it is wrong, wicked and deathly yet peaceful. Briefly, it reminds you of the times you covered patients with a white sheet.
You think you should be terrified, as the doctor slowly makes their way towards you, reaching out with their never-ending limbs, yet you do not move. You are either too tired or too apathetic to even think about what might happen to you. It doesn't seem so important anymore. The fresh blood that runs from your nose doesn't even bother you. The warmth is welcome. When did your skin get so cold?

Your body doesn't answer to you anymore, nor does your mind. You reach back, coming into the stranger's soft embrace. They are silent and their eyes, behind the thick glass, do not reach yours. The sweet odor comes and swallows you again. But this time, you notice something different. It is coming from your insides.
