Biography
ooAmurisa |
|
Black thunderclouds rolled over the valley and darkened the sky as thick sheets of rain began to pour. Amurisa stepped out of the main cave entrance and out into the pattering rain. From her ledge on the cliff she could see the clan's farmers, who were haphazardly gathering their tools, putting them away, and then flying up to the cave as fast as they could. Fortunately the single snapper farmer was able to control the winds around her to lift her upwards. "Hey, why weren't we warned?" A slender wildclaw descended in front of her, half sliding as she landed. "This came out of nowhere!" Amurisa frowned. "This was not predicted," she said, glancing at the black clouds. "It's worse than usual." The wildclaw tilted her head. "So what do we do if the river rises? This storm could wash out all our crops." "Get everyone into the gathering room and check that nobody is missing. Bring the wind and water dragons with strong magic out here, to me." "Got it," nodded the wildclaw, and she dashed inside. A few moments later she returned with the wind snapper, a spiral, a pearlcatcher and a coatl. "Two water, two wind." Amurisa smiled. "Thank you, Rurui, now get inside and wait out the storm with the rest of the clan. We've got some cleaning up to do." After a couple of hours, Amurisa and her team of dragons cleared away the clouds and excess water with their magic. A couple of hatchlings peered cautiously out of the cave entrance as they swooped down and entered the cave to rest. "Thanks," one whispered. "No problem," the skydancer replied. After all, she was the High Leader, and she knew she had to keep her clan safe. |
Origins
Amurisa was a traveller until she met Iyo, whom she fell in love with and they began a clan together. They decided against having children as managing a clan while looking after their offspring would be a hard task. Amurisa had left her parents once she was old enough because wanted to travel around Sornieth as much as she could. As she was only young, she had overestimated her ability to fly far and only then did she realize how large the different elemental reigons really were. She decided to dedicate months to flying all the way across the Ashfall Waste from her nest to enter wind territory.
It was at a river that she met Iyo, who was with a tundra and a pearlcatcher. The three of them were close friends who travelled together, and they had stopped to rest there for the night. Amurisa stayed with them and left to continue her flight in the morning. Before long it was noon, and she felt a longing to go and see that golden skydancer again. She decided to fly back to the river and stay there a second night. She hoped Iyo and his friends had not left.
As she arrived, she saw Iyo slumbering beneath a tree. The orange light from the setting sun passed through its leaves and cast dappled shadows across his body.
"I thought you were travelling?" He asked.
"Well, yes..." Amurisa shook her head feathers. "But, um, I was feeling... tired. So I'm back here to rest for another night."
Iyo blinked. She knew he could tell she was nervous. "Alright."
This same routine continued for a couple of days, and Amurisa realized she liked Iyo more than she thought. She'd fly off and then come back because she feared she would never see him again.
Little did she know, Iyo was doing something similar. He found the nervous skydancer quite charming, so he faked an injured wing so that he could rest by the river for longer. Iyo's friends kept their distance.
"There's obviously something going on between them," hissed the pearlcatcher into the tundra's ear.
"Yes," replied the tundra. "We should leave them to it. Iyo's never fallen in love before."
"You're so right. This will be a great story! I'll tell the next dragon I meet, immediately."
"Do you think he'll mind if you do?"
"Not if I don't tell him," smirked the pearlcatcher. "Don't spill a word, Fenn."
It took a few weeks before Iyo's friends got suspicious about his injured wing.
"How's that wing going?" Asked the pearlcatcher.
"Arumino, that is none of your business. You'll tell every dragon you meet for the rest of your life."
Arumino sneered. "You're faking it."
"It's none of your business! I'm going to go and drink from the river, I'm thirsty."
Iyo stormed off and made his way to where Amurisa was resting beside the river. He knew he couldn't fake the injured wing for much longer, so he had to either tell the skydancer how he felt about her, or he had to say goodbye.
"Hey," he said, nervously walking toward Amurisa.
"Oh! Uh, hi!" She exclaimed. "Uh, I need to say something."
"Me too," said Iyo. "I think..." He went quiet. "I think I like you."
Amurisa froze. "You do?" Her feathers instinctively flared out in shock. "That's what I was going to say!"
The two of them looked at each other awkwardly and then turned their heads as a loud rustling sound came from their left.
"I KNEW IT!" Arumino jumped out from a bush and thumped his tail on the ground. "Come on, Fenn, tell him!" He attempted pull the tundra out from the bush with great difficulty. "Tell him!"
"It was really obvious," said Fenn. "Both of you. Sorry."
Iyo and his friends ended up inviting Amurisa to join them on their travels. She of course accepted, and for the rest of that day Arumino spoke light-hearted jokes to them about how they had behaved for the past few weeks. Amurisa sat next to Iyo anxiously as the moon rose up into the sky and she turned to look at him. He looked back. The laughter of the tundra and the pearlcatcher echoed into the night. The starts twinkled in the clear sky. Amurisa was the happiest she had felt in a very long time.
