Chipper

Poke - A chubby skycat Chipper befriended as a hatchling. They're inseparable.


Negotiator and peaceful reclaimer of casino assets. Chipper and Poke have the capacity to speak to animals and beastclan folk, and their jobs are to pick up objects and wealth won by the casino. He is a direct underling to Ante, and the most trusted of her minions. He is a contracted soul- his lifespan is dedicated to the casino, and his destiny was warped to only serve them for as long as he lives. He chose the deal to make his beloved skycat, Poke, immortal as she got old. Worth it..? Maybe. He couldn't live without her, but it is strange to work for the Shade.

Poke found him when he was little, deep at the bottom of one of the canyons of the Parched Canyonwalks. The young one had fallen out of sight and mind of his parents and broken several bones, including a wing. He likely would have been destined to starve and joint he ranks of dusty skeletons under the rubble and dirt if not for the reclusive little skycat sniffing him out and taking pity on him. Likely because of his colors being so similar to hers, she adopted him as a sort of kitten.

She brought him food, and his presence scared off predators from her den. As he grew his wing healed, supple bones being slightly bowed but otherwise functional. Once he was too large for the canyons barren nature to sustain, he and Poke left in search of greener lands with better meals for the both of them. For a couple years, all was well- both of them were shy and fit well into the lands of nature. But Poke was already an adult when Chipper was a child, and now as he grew to adulthood, she was nearing the end of her kitty lifespan...

He received his invitation to the Luck of the Claw while deep in worry, from a curious spiral- wearing a white mask and appearing from nowhere, he was frightened to see another dragon when he usually tried to stay as far from them as possible. Through a gentle conversation, she planted the idea in his head that perhaps opening up to other forces besides himself and Poke's nurturing nature might be wise. Thus, the casino could wriggle into his head, and offer him what he desired...

His life in service, for a lifetime with Poke. In Dealer's records, it was the easiest contract they'd ever made. One of the jacks kept it simple and won him in an instant.

Separation from violence keeps him complacent in the Luck of the Claw business, and if he were in a role like Baccarats he would certainly be trying to defect. But flying between shrines, summoning circles, and debtor's living spaces is perfectly fine, and Sonerith is interesting to explore! He'll have Poke at his side for as long as he lives, and that- that alone is enough reason to oppose the nature of reality, and betray the gods he was born from.

It wasn't like they ever took note of him in the first place.
