"Your testimony... Completely contradicts the facts!" - Ryuunosuke.

lightv1.png Ryuunosuke Naruhodou was brought to Sornieth alongside his best friend and trusted partner, Kazuma, and dropped right into a courthouse of the Sundial Ruins.

They were wandering around to try and figure out where they ended up, only to stumble into an antechamber occupied by a distressed dragon.

"OH, WHY ME?! WHY, WHY DID I HAVE TO GO AND VISIT THAT CURSED CURIO SHOP?!" The Coatl wailed, teeth grit tight and feathers puffed up in displeasure. "WHY AM I SO REGULARLY RIFE WITH RUEFUL REGRETS?!"

"Er, I think we ought to leave this man in peace, partner," Kazuma murmured, glancing to Ryuu... Who was no longer by his side. "Partner?"

"Souseki-san!" Ryuu shouted, skidding to a stop before the Coatl. "Souseki-san, is that really you?!"

The Coatl startled at the Nocturne's seemingly sudden appearance, then as he digested the words spoken, his eyes bulged in their sockets. "Yes! Yes, it's me! And surely that's you, Locum Student Mr. Naruhodou Esquire?"

"Yes, it is! Goodness, how did you wind up here?"

"I WAS CURSED!" Souseki shrieked, and as Kazuma treaded over, he went on to elaborate, "I was relaxing outside of my home in the countryside when out of nowhere, THE SPIRITS STRUCK! The ground beneath me cracked into a gaping chasm, and I fell in! And now, as some kind of horrible joke, I have Earth magic."

"That's strange," Kazuma muttered, exchanging glances with his partner. "Ryuu and I had simply fallen asleep at night and then woke up here."

"I suppose that's just another show of my terrible luck," The Coatl sighed, then promptly straightened up. "Ah, wait! We've yet to be acquainted, haven't we? I'm Souseki Natsume. I suppose you could call me an author..."

Kazuma bowed his head. "Kazuma Asougi. I'm a prosecutor."

At that, Souseki almost blanched. "A prosecutor?! A- Are you the one going t- to try and send me to the gallows, then?!"

"No, no, of course not. I don't even know why you're here."

"Ah."

"Souseki-san, are you... In trouble again?" Ryuu asked, sweating when Souseki nodded.

"I've been accused of attempted murder yet again. And the victim... Was my arch-nemesis! YES, THEY'RE ACCUSING ME OF TRYING TO MURDER DEESHERLOCK HOLMES!" His wings flared out in frustration, and he seethed, "Do I despise the man with the whole of my soul?! Yes! Would I ever take claw to his throat in a sincere attempt to end his life?! NO! HE'S NOT WORTH GOING TO THE GALLOWS FOR!"

"W- Wait, Mister Holmes is here, too?! And he's hurt?!"

"Natsume-san, do you have any idea of who could be the true culprit?" Kazuma questions, brow furrowed in deep thought. Souseki shakes his head miserably.

"I was just looking at the old tomes the curio shop had. I didn't even know that accursed detective was there until I stumbled across him in that accursed basement, full of accursed relics! And then the proprietor found me standing over him, and it spiraled from there! Holmes and I- we had been crossing paths throughout the days, a- and dragons around must have overheard me telling him to get lost, b- because when questioned, the proprietor claimed to know why I would have tried to kill the detective!"

"So they have a motive, but it seems fragile at best. Unless you were actually threatening to kill him should he continue to bother you, there's little sustenance to it."

"Right! And I would never say anything so extreme, I simply told him that I would never forgive his wrongs against me and that he would be my enemy until he died!"

At that, both attorneys fell silent. Ryuu slouched over, sweating even more. "Souseki-san, please tell me you didn't actually say until he died?..."

Souseki fidgeted.

"Your defense will have a tough time working around that," Kazuma murmured, then the two startled when Souseki wailed,

"THAT'S JUST THE THING! I DON'T HAVE A LAWYER! I DON'T HAVE ANYTHING!"

"Then I'll defend you, Souseki-san. You can count on me!" Ryuu told him, expression earnest and serious.

The Coatl sniffled. "You will? I can?" He held out his hands, cheering, "Yes! Yes, of course I can! You've always been there for me, Locum Student Mr. Naruhodou Esquire!"

"In that case, I'll be your assistant. Though I still don't have much experience in prosecuting, I still have a good grasp of what tricks they'll be using in the trial to trip you up," Kazuma added, crossing his arms over his chest.

"Thank you, partner." Ryuu smiled, then he turned back to Souseki. "Kazuma's an incredible lawyer- he's who I've learned everything I know now from!"

"Heh, you flatter me, partner. But your knowledge came from your own work, nothing more."

"It seems that either way, I'm in good hands," Souseki added, sniffling again. "Thank you both! I won't forget this!"

And from there, Kazuma and Ryuu took to the courtroom. The judge evaluated their worthiness of the task before them, then they proceeded with the trial, working diligently to prove Souseki's innocence.

It wasn't an easy task. In fact, it was nearly impossible- the curio shop was just too out of the way for many dragons to have been there, and there were no signs of anyone sneaking out of the shop after the crime had been committed.

"I know he's innocent," Ryuu muttered, clearly pained to be letting his companion down. "But... We just can't prove it. None of the evidence-"

"HOLD IT!" A voice cried, one that was pleasantly familiar to the defense team, and when everyone turned to the witness stand...

There stood Sherlock Holmes in all his glory. Clearly weary from his injury, but that lively gleam in his eye never dulled for even a second.

"G- Goodness gracious!" The judge yipped. "Just who are you, and what gives you the right to interrupt the flow of the court?!"

"Your Honor, this is Sherlock Holmes. The victim of this case," Kazuma responded, and Holmes gave a short nod, a smile spreading across his muzzle.

"It's good to see you again after all this time, Mister Asougi. Mister Naruhodou."

"Mister Holmes, can you shed any light on this matter? Who did this to you?" Ryuu asked, desperate for the answer.

The Wildclaw frowned, growing serious. "I can tell you with complete certainty that it wasn't Mister Mustache. Or any Coatl, for that matter. In truth, the dragon who tried to kill me was..."

The whole court leaned in, anticipating the detective's answer.

Holmes, ever-cheeky, flicked the brim of his cabbie and pointed to the dragon on the stand with him.

"The proprietor of the curio shop, Callecter!"

And with that, the evidence fell into place. Kazuma and Ryuu finished the fight that Holmes started, proving Callecter guilty of the crime and saving Souseki.

Once the trial was won, the trio went to the nearby hospital to check on Holmes. There, they were met with every friend who had vanished from home, finally reunited and whole. Once Holmes was better, they left for their new home, Clan Tellatale.

Nowadays, Ryuu works alongside Susato in defending, striving to get the right verdict in every single trial. He makes sure to always work with the utmost faith and loyalty in his clients.

When he's not at trial or working on a case outside of court, he likes to relax or read. He's a big ol' snacker, and he's actually a bit of a hopeless romantic, adoring many of the love stories Sornieth has to offer.

Most often, though, he's right by Kazuma's side doing whatever needs doing, always content and playfully bantering with his beloved partner. They stay by each others' side even at night, and when Ryuu reflects on his decision to leave London not so long ago, he finds himself grateful it didn't work out. Right by Kazuma's side is where he needs to be.
