Mate: Dawnsblood Khoi

When Sunset was scouring the market where she tends to sell off young hatchlings, she stumbled upon a relatively cheap dragon on an ancient breed. His name was Varuna. Varuna had a powerful presence to him and when he made eye contact with the clan leader, she was compelled to purchase him. She brought him back to the clan walking at her shoulder and instantly, he became a sort of advisor to her. His motives currently are unknown.

Dawnsblood has asked to be his mate. In order to avoid the added difficulty that would come with explaining his breed and origin, Varuna decided to say that he was sterile. He had grown fond of the leader's daughter, but there was nothing he could do about it. He hated to see how she cried though, insisting that he was lying and that they try anyways. He didn't feel like he had much of a choice though, and went along with her.

His plans of faking being sterile seemed to backfire when Sunset brought in another Veilspun from the market. Her name was Khoi and she was bought with the designation of being his mate. If he wanted to keep the ranking in the clan that he was blessed with, Varuna had no choice but to comply. He was reluctant, and Dawnsblood cornered him to try and talk him out of it, but Sunset scared him and he wouldn't dare cross her.

3/13/22

He wasn't there with Khoi when the eggs hatched. He had a feeling something terrible would happen. Although, not long after Sunset left with the four hatchlings, Dawnsblood made her way over to his nest, revealing another hatchling tucked safely under her wing. The small female seemed so, so confused and Varuna was filled with love at the site of her. All he could do was look up at Dawnsblood and ask why.

She told him that even though he seemed like he didn't care, she knew this would hurt him. And it was her fault. Taking one of the hatchlings and taking care of it was the least she could do. He thanked her, and the two shared a moment before she went off to find a place to hide the hatchling. He watched her leave, but didn't say another word.

3/19/22

He had to watch his daughter leave today. They celebrated Haven coming of age, but soon after Dawnsblood had to talk her into leaving the clan. It was sad, but he knew it was for her own good and steeled his nerves. However, unexpectedly to him, Dawnsblood was the one to cry over the young Veilspun leaving. He comforted her and found himself starting to truly fall in love with the dragon that already loved him.

3/28/22

For a while, everything was peaceful. Although, they could not have children, Varuna and Dawnsblood made due and came to love one another. However, it eventually became time for Khoi to have children again. Sunset didn't give him a choice.

Khoi tried to convince him that she was the only one in the clan for him. Tried to tell him that Dawnsblood would never understand and would never be there for him like she was. Varuna didn't dislike Khoi, but he cared for Dawnsblood more. He held off his apologies to her until they had five beautiful eggs, quickly leaving from the den and going back to his mate.

4/2/22

Varuna wasn't there for his second clutch when they hatched. He was with Dawnsblood. It wasn't like he forgot or something like that. He knew the dragons were to be born today. He just... Didn't want to grow attached to hatchlings he knew he was destined to never see again. It was as simple as that.
