Biography
One fateful day, the young Pearlcatcher came across a strange stone. This stone appeared darker than black, as if no light had ever touched it directly. Never having been told of the Shade and how it still lingered in the world, this young dragon's curiosity led her to reach out and touch the stone....
Duskena has no other memories of her life before. Just the briefest memory of touching that beautiful stone. Her name, her place in the Pack she is part of - all that was earned, through combat. Each and every day is a struggle, a fight for survival. She hunts with her pack, but their is fighting amongst them as well. Only the strongest get to eat well, with everyone else fighting for scraps.
In the early days, she went to sleep hungry. Duskena was scared and submissive, eager not to displease her Alpha. But the hunger drove her to be more vicious. She had to survive, no matter the cost. She cared not for the others, and she knew they cared not for her except in how there was safety in numbers, for as long as those numbers are useful. Alphas were particularly savage and may eliminate their followers as a show of strength or to vent frustration. You learn quickly when and how to flee an Alpha's wrath.
Over time Duskena had adapted. She'd learned how to steal, sneak, and lie. At first she built up her strength by acquiring scraps. This forced her to become clever and ruthless. When she was stronger, she started picking fights. She was careful to only target dragons she was confident she could defeat. As days went on, she was defeating stronger and smarter opponents. She might never be an Alpha, but she would also never be a dragon to underestimate.
She would live another day.
