Being a thief in the Southern Icefield is no easy task. The snows are cold and unforgiving, and the residents are often even more so. Sneaking around when you're a dragon that grows to be as large as an imperial is extremely hard, but since he was old enough to walk, Kotori was taught the ways of pillagers in the frozen wastelands. It was an art he mastered. Thieves who are caught are left for dead by the rest of the band, after all.

But all it takes is one mistake. On a risky venture into an esteemed clan's precious hoard, Kotori was finally caught. He expected to spend a lifetime within the deepest prisons money could buy. What he did not expect was to be saddled as a glorified babysitter to a spoiled heiress. A rogue well versed in sneaking around would be the perfect shadow to guard against such attacks again. The Lord made it clear it would be the only mercy he would get.

Kotori begrudgingly yet dutifully played his part as Lady Keiki's shadow. His cold and aloof manner did not help the heiress warm to him, and she payed him little mind. But as they grew older, and the day of her promised wedding approached, Kotori was the verse to see the strain on the heiress' happy façade. On her wedding day, one desperate plea from Keiki to Kotori changed everything. He may have been employed by the Lord, but he was loyal to the heiress first and foremost.

Their flight across the frozen continent forged an unbreakable bond of friendship and trust between the two. Several weeks later, when they finally came to an exhausted rest in wind territory, Keiki decided that she would stay in Clan Sumeru. Kotori was free to leave if he pleased. But Keiki was no longer the selfish princess she had been. The harsh journey had seen to that. and Kotori's complete loyalty had been earned.

Now Kotori's memory of the geography of the Southern Icefield serves him among the clan. During the worst of the snowstorm seasons, he stays with the clan at Keiki's side. Once the quiet season begins, he makes his way back to the Southern Icefields to map any changes in the terrain.
