534-036-FCC
SCOUT
"Series 534, experiment number 36
FCC aesthetics applied"
....................................................
| STOIC | WITHDRAWN | CURIOUS |

His serial code is engraved, beneath fine feathers, in the metal casing he woke up in.

Blinking up into the bright light of Botolinum's 'eyes' with his own. The first to awaken from his batch, 036-FCC was expected to be the star... 'child'. Lessons, sure enough, came easy and quick. Brass cogs under his surface move smooth as muscle with the Lightning magic contained within him.

036-FCC quickly proved to be more adept at combat than his siblings, less so in magic and stealth. He fell from favor of his 'parents'... and doesn't understand why his core aches at that. His siblings are more suited to their intended function, of course they would be more favored.

Their turn-around was quick. In a few short weeks from being woken, 036-FCC found his functions being observed by passers-by as his parents auctioned off all their recent creations, himself and his siblings included.

He hated the smell of that auction house.

LORE CONTINUATION REWRITE (WIP)

It wasn't long before 036-FCC found himself, once again, abandoned on the streets. His second owner, third owner, fourth owner... all had found him to be "faulty", or "malfunctioning" when it came to the required needs of each clan. Eventually, the rejected model decided that his best chances of survival would be on his own.

Working the lightning farms by day, scavenging the streets of Goldensparc by night... it became an automated response after a while. 036-FCC didn't have to think too hard - this warehouse loading bay was safe to sleep in, this transformer station of city mainframes was not - and this lifestyle became the default to him. A jack of all trades; those that didn't require magic, at least. Until one night... a Spiral in a lab coat gestured silently with a beckoning claw and led the mechanical dragon towards his new life at Viralwire Labs.

Vyktre was hospitable, in the least. A dragon of few words, nose always buried deep in his research. As long as 036-FCC kept watch, positioned and alert by the entrance to the lab with his eyes scanning the dimly lit shadows for any sign of an intruder... Vyktre provided him a charging station, regular maintenance checks and the occasional "retrieval mission", which the security drone didn't necessarily agree to, but would tolerate provided the smaller dragon would house him. The one biggest rule, though, was never to enter the laboratory itself...

***

What 036-FCC saw horrified him.

The laboratory reminded him of his creators' domain for the most part, especially the pieces of machinery and strange, flickering lights, but the thing that was truly absurd to the android was the rows upon rows of tanks, each sealed with a thick, pressurized crystalline glass and dimly lit by flickering overhead fluorescence. Within these tanks lay a tangle of wires, probes and other strange devices clipped onto the limbs of each creature contained inside. Some even appeared to be pumping strange fluids directly into the veins of larger specimens... or was it taking fluid out? 036-FCC wasn't quite sure. What 036-FCC could comprehend, though, was that these creatures were unlike himself - made of flesh, blood, and organic matter. But... something about them wasn't right. Something about the shelves full of unhatched eggs didn't feel right either.

036-FCC knew that he was tasked with retrieving these eggs, often from dangerous and secretive locations no organic creature should expose themselves to, lest they be the very being he was taking these eggs from... and he knew that Vyktre needed them for a special purpose, but this just felt... wrong.

The psychedelic, pulsing creature that lay before him behind thick glass slowly raised itself to meet him. Emotions that were not his own flooded the mind of 036-FCC and in that moment, the droid knew that his master's actions were immoral.

Backing up slowly, 036-FCC failed to notice a glass beaker behind him that fell to the floor with a resounding smash. Next came the deafening roar of the alarm systems and 036-FCC knew his only option now was to run. Sprinting towards the door, the last action that the droid would ever perform on those vile experiments was to pull the release lever.

He hoped, with every gear in his whirring mechanical heart, that he was doing the right thing as the droid pulled a shelf of glowing, corrosive chemicals down upon his former master and fled for his life, desperately trying to override his sound drivers and block out the shrieks of fury behind him.
