EVENT ORGANIZER

.
_ADMINISTRATIVE: //this.BASIC_INFO.get();
SHE/HER | FEMALE
EARTH . | HATCHED IN DRAGONHOME
........| HOMETOWN: CLIFFCARVE [REEDCLEFT ASCENT]
.
_OVERVIEW: //this.GENERAL_INFO.get();
Event organizer turned Nevadan survivor. Apoidea knows the wasteland by heart. She’s studied it with fervour, learning its ruthlessness and hanging onto every unsaid word of violence.

She learned it so the Errata don’t have to, she says. She lies. It’s obvious. She is sharp and she is hungry and she is thriving.

She learned it so she could secure the Errata an escape, she says. That’s not a lie. She’s carving a path through the wasteland just for them, a path of claw and fang and information both. And if it ends with blood on her feathers, if it ends with an agency on her tail— well.

That’s what she’s counting on.

It's nighttime.
Well, it's nighttime in that the red glow in the sky has dimmed to nothing, not that the sun has set. The sun doesn't shine over Nevada, after all.

Apoidea stands before the great walls of Nexus City- oh, pardon her, Moonlight Central and stares up at the snipers she knows are stationed there, ignoring the glare of the floodlights in her eyes. She can see the shimmer of Arcane-cast shielding extending upwards from the actual concrete walls.

"I come to parley!" she shouts, as loudly as she can. She wants to sing. She can sing her native language louder than she can speak the common tongue, but she can't tell if there is another coatl up there. She knows there are snipers, of course, but there is no way she can know who they are.

No answer.

"I want to meet with the Sheriff!" she shouts next. She doesn't actually want to. Well, she does, but she doesn't expect it to work. She expects to be put into contact with one of the lower ranks of MERC, to have to work her way up 'till she can actually speak with the Sheriff and broker a deal that will put her one step closer to getting the Errata out of this desert.

It's no different from why she's even coming to MERC in the first place, after all. They're in contact with Nexus, who are allied with the Agency Against Hank Wimbleton. The Agency that's keeping the desert's borders closed. Sure, she could go straight to the Agency, she supposes, but it's safer this way.

There is still no reply.

"I have no weapons! I am a civilian!" she yells. It's true; she's not trained in fighting, she hasn't brought any weapons, and she still requires a wind-up before she can cast her magic. What isn't true is the fact that she is training herself in combat. She's learning to fight, to cast her magic with no more than a thought, to wield weapons like it's second nature. But the snipers don't need to know that. "I am going to step forward! Do not shoot!"

Apoidea closes her eyes for a moment, steels herself, and steps into the floodlights. She's tensed, ready to spring away if some trigger-happy sniper does launch a bolt of magic at her, but no attack ever comes and so she stands there, squinting past the bright white light and up at the wall.

"You can see me clearly! I did not lie!" she yells. "I want to meet with the Sheriff! Please open the gates!"

She doesn't expect them to do so, and they do not. Instead, the lights along one section of the city's wall snap on, illuminating two MERC snipers- a pearlcatcher and a ridgeback.

Apoidea finally gets an answer. The pearlcatcher visibly takes a breath, then shouts. "Whaddya want with the Sheriff!"

"I wish to parley!" Apoidea shouts back. Her throat is starting to hurt. "I am walking up to the gates now. I am going to sit there so I don't have to yell as loudly!"

The ridgeback up on the wall flashes her a thumbs-up; his pearlcatcher partner slaps him for it.

Apoidea pays them no heed, does as she said she would, and leans back onto her haunches. "I want to meet with the Sheriff. I need an alliance with you. I need an alliance with MERC."

The ridgeback, up on the wall, nods along. The pearlcatcher doesn't slap him again, but glares at him nonetheless.

"You are in contact with the Nexus Core. I need contact with them."

The ridgeback stops nodding. The pearlcatcher's wings flare up, just a little- they visibly stop themselves, but their emotions are already clear.

"If you're here just for the Core, go find them yourself!" the pearlcatcher yells. "We ain't in the business to be the middleman for them!"

"Yeah, annoy 'em on your own terms, don't drag us to it!" the ridgeback agrees, nodding along.

"Okay! I just thought I could contact them through your channels," Apoidea says, as if that was what she meant all along. Ah, the skills you learn from customer service. "I am here for an alliance with MERC!"

"So you just here to use our phones to call the Core, that it?" the pearlcatcher asks, leaning over the edge of the wall. The arcane shielding ripples where they poke their head through.

"No, that's separate. Two birds with one stone," Apoidea says, shaking her head. "I apologize! I am here to meet with the Sheriff to broker an alliance."

The pearlcatcher twitches their whiskers- once, twice- and leans in to whisper with the ridgeback, who pulls out a radio as well. Apoidea waits, patiently, until they reach an agreement.

"We're letting you in, but we ain't taking you to the Sheriff," the pearlcatcher finally says. "You'll need an escort! Gates'll open when we got the 'zerkers coming through. Sit tight. Sure you can do that, right?”

Finally.

Apoidea releases the tension she did not realize she has. At least she salvaged that well enough. Not perfectly- she definitely didn't salvage that perfectly, and she expects to run into a few more roadblocks from her clumsy mention of the Nexus Core, but well enough.

But it's a start. It's an in. And that's all she needs.
